If other countries put high tariffs on American goods, then we would impose high tariffs on their goods, reciprocally. So much for American sovereignty. So much for deciding what’s in our own national interest.

Canada and Mexico, combined, provide 9 times as much fuel to the US as the next highest country and 11 times as much raw materials as the next highest country. For both, the next highest source is Saudi Arabia, hardly a convenient source but one that now seems far more politically aligned.
