"We’re stuck in a carbon accountancy model which is basically about doing everything exactly the same as we currently do, just a little bit less bad,” he said. “That’s not really going to cut it.” Spot on quote this from @justinmcguirk.bsky.social on the business-as-usual stasis we're in

Great points about climate comms from @carolinejmolloy.bsky.social here. Feel like the media coverage on this report compounded with the BP news dropping renewables is very telling about current state of climate action in UK

Fossil fuel giants like BP are climate vandals who will always put profit before the safety of our climate. Their retreat from green investments shows that we cannot rely on market forces to save us from climate breakdown 1/3

Climate Change Committee are usually excellent communicators so this stuff about kebabs is terrible messaging. Huge companies need to change first not individuals. Fear this will be just fodder for right wing headlines.

Extremely slept on

Great to be part of Dundee Radio Club listening festival this weekend. With Neil Mcguire we've put together a show called House Language about modern domesticity, housing crisis and what we value in our homes - have a listen dundeeradio.club

Damning statement from Grenfell United on this decision

It's not a demolition site it's a mass grave. It's not a demolition site it's a crime scene. It's not a demolition site its a homeland. It's not a demolition site it's Palestine. It's not a demolition site it's a genocide.

Really disappointing to see the Wyndford flats scheduled for demolition. The campaign to save them brought together so many grassroot and built environment groups, especially as it was such blatant greed driving Wheatley's plans for the estate. www.glasgowtimes.co.uk/news/scottis...

Spoke to three ambient musicians (KMRU, Lawrence English and Ingri Høyland) about their work and the genre's relationship to climate emergency. Read A Space for Slowness in It's Freezing in La here itsfreezinginla.com/articles/amb...

Brilliant article by Martha Dillon in @news.architectsjournal.co.uk on the huge gaps in Labour's approach to housing in the climate emergency Feels like Starmer's government is getting weirder by the week even though this is such an open net here www.architectsjournal.co.uk/news/opinion...

Labour's simplemindedness will be its downfall - and ours. You can't build and bulldoze your way out of the housing crisis. Unless you also change the system, you'll still leave millions without decent homes. My column today explains why. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Amazing label @katuktuco.bsky.social are re-releasing some of their 2024 tapes including my own Wind & Water ambient album, have a listen >>

Visited the V&A Dundee on Friday, despite hearing some criticisms about the gallery I think it works pretty well. Brilliant series of shows too with Scotland + Venice A Fragile Correspondence, Dundee Tapestry and Design HOPES

Train cancellation at Preston meant a visit to the brutalist bus station 🙌

Visited Waste Age: What can design do? At MAC in Birmingham and great to see Lacaton&Vassal, Matthew Barnett Howland’s Cork House and problems with construction waste amongst strong argument for right to repair and circular economy

Spent the morning doing some field recordings for @citiesandmemory.bsky.social, across the Forth Road Bridge (1964) amazing views of Forth Bridge (1890) and Queensferry Crossing (2017)

BREAKING NEWS //Angela Rayner has granted permission to demolish M&S Oxford St, overturning a decision by the previous Secretary of State. The chance to set a vision for a more sustainable and creative Britain that reuses its built-heritage, has been squandered. Green growth? Not on this evidence.

"The contempt and disrespect we are being shown is astonishing. Losing all control over what happens to your home...” Disappointing read this about the ruinous and almost Kafkaesque approach to retrofit by Edinburgh Council www.scottishhousingnews.com/articles/mel...

This is good list for everyone moving over

Commented in recent issue of Architects' Journal about the now dropped proposals for Glasgow's Buchanan Galleries and reflecting on what that means for urban living, transport and construction in the climate emergency.

From events, marketing, old habits to just outright lying, I broke down the myriad ways greenwashing is (mis)used and manifested in architecture for latest issue of Scottish Ecological Design Association's magazine Have a read here:
