Australia holds their elections on a Saturday, makes voting compulsory, have hundreds of polling locations per community. But I think the most important factor in their high voter turnout (90%+) are the 'democracy sausages'. Starting around the 1980's local groups began selling sausages...

Francis wasn’t perfect, but I will miss having a pope who, instead of asserting Christian supremacy, says things like, “All religions are paths to God. There is only one God, and religions are like languages, paths to reach God. Some Sikh, some Muslim, some Hindu, some Christian.”
