Actually watched that movie for the first time this weekend. Quite good, although I am not yet radicalized.

Wait so he has leisure time for fiction, just no leisure time for non-fiction books?

I’d say more like 10% but that is still way way too high for comfort.

I agree with all that. Some disruption is good, even major systemic stress can result in good things, but I’m generally satisfied with a capitalist democracy mostly run by the elites and reasonably friendly to business as long as its excesses are regulated.

It’s just that with this nonsense, I fundamentally disagree with unitary executive theory and it also happens to be in service of a madman…

I mean I hate this one, but constitutional crises aren’t always bad. Secession and the civil war was a constitutional crisis that made us a better country through the post civil war amendments, FDR fundamentally changed our government- people thought that was a CC at the time.

I mean I’ve seen lots of polling that increased minorities and sometimes majorities no longer have a positive view of democracy so I think those people would welcome a CC… on the other hand, those who believe in democracy but also a strong unitary executive wld need a CC to bring that about…

As a good thing,or conversely as courts causing the (bad) crisis by issuing injunctions and TROs.

The problem is that a significant part of the 54% likely think this is a good thing.

You end that saying that “Democrats will fight back any way we can” SO DO SOMETHING! Musk just walked into treasury and opm- why don’t you try that? This is past the time for press releases—show us you are doing something!

Real leadership would be you at the treasury building demanding entry and when d bird having a press conference regarding the illegality of the actions being taken.

I think it’s the most difficult of the series. A bit denser and with more character background/development than most. So it’s actually the one I turn to when I want a more serious read. I do think being familiar and invested in Vimes is essential so I see how it would be a suboptimal starting point.

It’s far from my favorite but even lesser pratchett is good pratchett. It is just a different type of comedy than the later—more general parody of the fantasy genre than the more focused societal comedy/critique of the mid to later books. If it had read it first, I probably would not have continued.

All I remember is Gatsby and tess of the Dubervilles, and catcher in the rye- one because I loved it, one I never finished, and one I have no strong feelings about even if it seems everyone else does… oh and Mein Kampf was a recommended but not required summer read

I think I read that they hated that song or at least the lead singer did, but the studio insisted it be included on the album

A good rule of thumb is don’t shit on other people’s joy. If someone asks what you think, ok. But to hear someone say “I really loved X!” and reply “well I hated it, it sucked” is just rude
