⚠️Russia is preparing a new army near NATO borders, with intel suggesting they’re gearing up for conflict. Bases in Petrozavodsk are being expanded, new military facilities built, and railways upgraded along borders with Finland, Estonia, and Norway. www.wsj.com/world/russia...

What #geologists do that they find fun? What about sending a funnel with a 15 kg stone attached to it into a karst you cannot see in pressurised 102°C water? Can't remember having that much fun for a while especially when we started seeing the pure gaz accumulating in the Erlenmeyer. 🧪⚒️

Our faithful van didn't pass the MOT and although it runs, the sea has eaten most of its body in 23 years. Plastic@Bay CIC has no more way of transporting several tons of plastic from the shore while towing our UTV. It has served us well in the last 9 years. I wish I had the workshop to fix it.

Somewhat grim story that adds to the episode (pinned post) that I posted yesterday. Russian army actively encourages suicide among their troops. Because it's cheaper and politically more viable than to pay for any rehabilitation. I'll try to post the original vid as a reply to this post.

Poland has published footage from the Belarus border showing a Belarusian officer among a group of migrants who attacked Polish border guards. "There is no doubt about the cooperation of the Belarusian security services with gangs smuggling people from Africa and Asia," says the interior minister.

Reading our paper copy of the NY Times I came across Xavier Le Pichon’s obituary! What a loss. A pioneer of plate tectonics. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/09/s...

A wildebeest, a gorilla and a giraffe were among the life-size puppets that began a 20,000-kilometre (12,400-mile) trek across the globe Wednesday from the DR Congo capital, to raise awareness about migration due to climate change. u.afp.com/S5hy

Electricity consumption by data centres will more than double by 2030, driven by artificial intelligence applications that will create new challenges for energy security and CO2 emission goals, the IEA said Thursday. u.afp.com/S5BP

#CrofNews We have planted the Bere, a 6-rows barley from northern Scotland. This is an experiment led by the @hutton.ac.uk to reintroduce this cereal in the area.

That made me laugh a bit too much. I really like Too Many Zooz, they are the great artists and truly engage with people. But sometimes it burns. youtu.be/OsmUghUaDhg?...

Everyone should read this, especially for the bits in the article that give us some insight into what these detention prisons used by ICE are like. And no one, no one, should be traveling to the US if they can avoid it. No one. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

#unsollicitedMusicSuggestion 🎧 We lost the Sea is back welostthesea.bandcamp.com/album/a-sing... I like it, more metal than usual in parts. It works for me. Well after their seminal album Departure Songs of 2015 (plaid in the car always), they show a new interesting expression.

Godspeed

Powerful picture from RMS photography taken at Djursland near Aarhus in Denmark of a deceased stranded humpback whale. A sad cosmic encounter.

So surreal but shows who we are dealing with. They will drain everyone just for the satisfaction of being "right" in the post-truth fiction they live in.

#FridayFold ⚒️🧪 No if but a Butt and some folds. Amazing weather at the Butt of Lewis today. A few seabirds and no whale. We live in an amazing place

All it took was one disastrous Oval Office meeting...

“The alarming trend, known as the 764 Movement, originated from an area code in Texas and has roots in various neo-Nazi and satanic cults… The movement involves teens coercing other teens and children as young as eight years old to harm themselves on camera, sometimes leading to suicide.”

Among other complete insanities in the White House announcement this afternoon was the claim that these two uninhabited volcanic islands were engaged in a trade war with the US, imposing 10% tariffs.

Exactly three years ago, Ukraine regained full control over the Kyiv region after Russians were forced to withdraw. An extraordinary story of resistance by Ukraine which led to major Russian losses.

On this day three years ago, Ukrainian troops entered the Kyiv suburb of Bucha after a month of Russian occupation and discovered evidence of widespread atrocities against civilians. "The guilt for this will lie on our children and grandchildren," journalist Yevgenia Albats wrote at the time.

I swear to God we will be in the final stages of the apocalypse and people will be posting on LinkedIn “this is what surviving that drone attack has taught me about b2b sales” or “robot dogs attacking my children has given me new insights into cybersecurity culture”
