Here's an idea, let's upgraded the entire telephony network with end-to-end encryption? 🤔

Crap crap crap. www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2...

To achieve "Protocols Not Platforms" requires builders to prioritize open protocols over growth tactics. But have hope that this approach can win because history is in our favor. The two largest social graphs are built on open protocols. Mobile phone network - 5+ Billion Email - 4+ Billion

For others, utopia is an island flowing with milk and honey with communal property, religious tolerance, and equality for all. For me, utopia is an Internet with no NAT devices so peer-to-peer protocols could function the way God intended.

Europol head says, "Anonymity is not a fundamental right." Translation: Force communications providers to make products/services insecure for everyone so that governments can read/watch/listen to what anyone is saying and doing online. The war on encryption never ends. archive.ph/2xNRq

Today we’re confirming a few things about #ATmosphereConf * we’re going to be holding the first #atproto conference in Seattle * join us March 22nd & March 23rd Read on for some more updates.

The world uses one of two ways to DM each other: 1. SMS (includes iMessage) 2. WhatsApp Both use a phone number to bootstrap a new relationship. Study this If you build alternative to WhatsApp. techcrunch.com/2025/01/21/m...

@mcuban.bsky.social I'm trying to build a rubric of what is and what isn't a grift in crypto, can you help? cryptobriefing.com/mark-cuban-m...

My 🌶️ take on this is that Matrix has a broken architecture not suitable for nation-scale use. Instead of binding the user identity to the homeserver we need a messaging layer that builds on the ATproto decentralized account ID (did:plc) element.io/blog/scaling...

The nudity in this case is the naked truth!

why should anyone control anyone else?

privacy in an app is like the seatbelt in a car No one chooses a car based on its seatbelt, but everyone hopes it will protect them in a crash No one chooses an app based on how it protects privacy, but everyone hopes their personal information won't be shared with the world in a data breach

This antiquated telephone network is beyond repair. It is time we consider how to replace it with a modern protocol that is end-to-end encrypted (including metadata) and runs on sufficiently decentralized network with no single owner or gatekeeper. Together we can do this 🇺🇸! 💪 x.com/kyleichan/st...

Everyone (including me) refers to Bluesky DIDs (and Farcaster IDs) as decentralized identities. But I wonder if the concept would click faster if we referred to them as Decentralized Social Accounts. The term "identity" is so multifaceted, leads to rabbit hole discussions unrelated to the tech.

It's far more likely that one of the 🇺🇸 clandestine agencies gained access to the phone itself, allowing them to see all messages sent or received by any app on the phone. 🕵️ x.com/mer__edith/s...
