In electing a serious and fearless progressive, the College of Cardinals looks like pretty much the only electorate in the world that hasn't had its brains boiled by far right propaganda & toxic social media. For a Catholic of my generation, this is an almost unbelievable development.

FINALLY, Mexico bans bullfighting after 500 years of torturing these beautiful beasts #EndAnimalExploitation #BlueEartj #TTDS

Meanwhile in Albuquerque yesterday 🏆 I don’t know this woman, but I love her already. @maggiestand.bsky.social

Congratulations to Mark Carney and the Liberal Party on their election victory. The bond between Europe and Canada is strong — and growing stronger.

Is J D Vance Opus Dei?

It’s extraordinary that so much media still reports on Trump with the old, redundant tools of the trade. He lied about Ukraine, then he tried to extort Ukraine, and having failed he threatens to walk away from Ukraine. The idea that he was ever going to do anything unwelcome to Putin is ridiculous.

Right wing populist politics has been so damaging and so brain-achingly tedious this last decade. Look at where we are as a result. Far poorer, weaker, more divided, isolated from the EU and trying not to piss off an egomaniacal lunatic in the White House. Sovereignty at its most vulnerable.

The mainstream media is letting the country down. Badly. If you support Bylines Network as a citizen journalism (ie democratic and pluralistic) alternative... ...then please chip in! We're changing the system. 👇

And to is here in UK

Labour's Stella Creasy rinsed the Tories for celebrating Trump's tariffs. #ukpolitics

Well, there is this.

It's amazing how few people in the UK realise that the last time the world went in to a massive financial tailspin, albeit one not directly caused by the President of the USA, it was Gordon Brown & the late Alistair Darling who provided the sort of international leadership desperately needed now.

“Trump’s America has forfeited global trust. The world has other choices apart from paying tribute to him and his sycophants now running a once great country with the prime aim of self-enrichment” Starmer says we don’t need or want to choose. Oh but we really do. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

"My colleague Pecksniff recently asked the question: ‘Why, in one of the ten richest countries in the world, do we feel so poor. Where did the money go?’ The answer is easy: it went to the rich. But that is only the beginning of the issue. How did it happen, and what do we want to do about it?"

My husband just got challenged by our daughter to complete a quiz in the Beano, “How funny are you?” He scored 4 out of 12, achieving the rank “Captain Boring”.

Nothing virtual about it. He's a solid psychopath, stone crazy, a dementing geriatric with uncontrollable anger management problems, an uneducated and uneducatable fool acting out a reality-tv fantasy...

Macclesfield Labour MP Tim Roca has been praised for his ‘superb speech’ during a debate on a petition calling for the UK to rejoin the EU

👍👍

I may be tired and a little hoarse, but as I said again and again on the Senate floor, this is a moment where we cannot afford to be silent, when we must speak up.

Never imagined I'd punch the air with delight on finding out the result of a Wisconsin Supreme Court special election. But here we are. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

The key to dealing with the new global context is to be honest about what has shifted. Starmer’s futile attempts to negotiate opt-outs with Trump and Reeves’s clinging to outdated orthodoxies suggest Britain still has some way to go to confront the new reality. Time to smash the emergency glass

FYI:

🔥 🔥 "Following the judgement issue by a French court today, Marine Le Pen... has been sentenced to an immediate five year ban on running for political office, four years imprisonment (two years with an electronic tag, two years suspended), and a €100,000 fine."

Hi, BlueSky. It's Hillary. I've joined up here to help get the word out about an important election in Wisconsin tomorrow, and other ways to defend our democracy against those who think votes can be bought.

👏👏👏👏

Whoever decided to refer to Pete Hegseth “WhiskiLeaks” needs to show yourself so I can buy you a beer. 🤣
