Holiday break is over & Liberating Narratives is back! Today's new post is about Ottoman & Persian opium and the scary importance of opium to all Euro imperialism in Southeast Asia 🗺️🗃️ www.liberatingnarratives.com/freedom-of-t...

Researching this post blew my mind. I had no idea how many countries were involved in the opium trade in the late 19th century. It’s not just the British and Chinese! It really spanned the Indian Ocean.

This was fun talking about a creative, bottom-up survey that involves storytelling!

Wrapping up our sponsored session "Designing the Un-survey: New Approaches to the Introductory World History Syllabus" with Q&A. Huge thanks to the panelists Lucy Barnhouse, Emily Fisher Gray, Bram Hubbell, and Jesse A. Spohnholz as well as Steve Harris for chairing.

Reading @sathnam.bsky.social’s Empireworld and this incredible line made me laugh out loud

I agree 100%. Everything on my site can be read with a 3 day trial subscription or be purchased as an individual post for $1. We need to pay writers, not expect them to give away their words for free.
