To keep working professionally, you need to be really good at writing. Pure, moment-to-moment writing. Seems obvious, but I see so many people trying to make it on their ability to pitch, their great ideas, or who they know. Which are all great! But not enough: the magic is in execution

Unbelievably talented designer and writer. I've spent my entire career competitively trying to catch up with them, and never have.

As of today I'm no longer working at FBG. I'd love to just take some time to myself before even thinking about another job, but given the state of the industry that's probably unwise. So I'm actively looking for work; for the last four years I've been a lead-level narrative designer/game designer.

We need to talk. If you're going to make a "narrative-driven" game, you need to have professional, ergonomic, narrative tools that facilitate narrative pipelines, design, writing, editing, and collaboration with other disciplines, particularly localization, audio and performance (if any).

You all know what an amazing writer Trick is. But what you may not know is what an amazing colleague and mentor they are. So many BioWare developers are better for having worked with them and if you’re smart you’ll try to work with them too.

I’ve tried for ten minutes to collect all my thoughts about Karin into something short and punchy but still worthy of her incredible impact on video games (and me personally). It’s impossible. She’s an icon and a legend and I’m literally grieving that she’s not at BioWare anymore.

I am not trying to be cruel but I agree: it is an enormously bad time to be trying to break into games. It’s a bad time to be a senior+ in games even, & I don’t see it improving soon. By all means, keep making art you care about, but it’s so unlikely to be a “pay the bills” career at this point.
