The latest episode of my podcast is up with my guest @brendanmarks.bsky.social, college basketball writer for The Athletic! #Duke! #UNC! #NCState! #GoDeacs! #ACC! #CooperFlagg! Great talk! Do it up! Apple Podcasts: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/s... Spotify: open.spotify.com/episode/59Nv...

NEW @theathletic.bsky.social: This week's Court Vision, hitting on: - NCAA Tournament expansion talk - Gonzaga's reality - Three of the bubbliest teams in America, and why they won't go away www.nytimes.com/athletic/616...

Auburn's 106-76 home win over Ole Miss tonight set the program record for most points per possession in a game in @kenpom.com's database, which dates back to the 1996-97 season.

13 years ago today… Pete Weber’s famous bowling celebration. WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? I AM! I talked to Weber and Gary Thorne about the moment and his legendary career. "If I hear you root against me, I’m gonna let you know about it." www.nytimes.com/athletic/249... @theathletic.bsky.social

FINAL: Michigan State 58, Maryland 55 Tre Holloman redeems his late TO with a halfcourt heave! What a SHOT. Game looked bound for OT... but Holloman makes an incredible play to seal it for Michigan State. Tom Izzo: "That was a lucky shot. But nobody can say we didn't deserve to win this game."

OMG MICHIGAN STATE

Maryland, on a 7-0 run in the span of 90 seconds (!!), has TIED it vs. Michigan State with 42.1 seconds left 👀

Michigan State...

Quite a day for the University of New Orleans. This morning it was reported the four of the team's top players have been suspended for a month b/c of suspected ties to sports betting. Then the school announced Master P is its new President of Basketball Operations. unoprivateers.com/news/2025/2/...

Coverage @theathletic.bsky.social of a busy #UNC news day... On the Tar Heels hiring longtime NBA agent Jim Tanner as the program's general manager: nytimes.com/athletic/611... On Hubert Davis' contract extension, which ties him to UNC through the 2029-30 season: www.nytimes.com/athletic/615...

Roger Ayers on the mic after a review for a hostile act in the Louisville-Virginia Tech game: "That's ACC basketball in February, there's nothing there". Legend.

Full story @theathletic.bsky.social on Davis' extension: www.nytimes.com/athletic/615...

UNC has signed Hubert Davis to a contract extension, which ties him to the program through 2030. Details: - Agreed to July 1, signed mid-December - Base salary up to $1.25 mil/year - Supplemental income starts at $1.7 mil this year, 100K increase every year - Additional $550K/year from Learfield

NEW @theathletic.bsky.social: Full story on UNC hiring longtime NBA agent Jim Tanner as its executive director and general manger, and why this is a much-needed move for the Tar Heels: www.nytimes.com/athletic/611...

Newly named Executive Director and General Manager of Carolina Basketball, Jim Tanner, appeared on the Carolina Insider Podcast last year around this time. You can find that interview here: Apple: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/c... Spotify: open.spotify.com/episode/2muF...

Good read from Schiff on an under-reported trend:

UNC has hired longtime NBA agent Jim Tanner as its new executive director and general manager. Tanner will, among other things: - Manage roster construction; - Negotiate contracts; - Identify/hire new scouting and analytics staffers; - And spearhead player development programs. This is a biggie.

NEW @theathletic.bsky.social: Stealing a page out of the @sethdavishoops.bsky.social playbook with today's Buy, Sell, or Hold? NCAA Tournament edition. Two hot teams I'm in on, two I'm fading, and two I've been riding with all season: www.nytimes.com/athletic/615...

In this week’s Top 25, notes on Duke’s historic 3-game surge, Kelvin Sampson’s brilliance, Michigan State dunks, Rick Pitino wins another league, Maryland’s balance, Clemson’s shooting, BYU P&R execution and Saint Mary’s winning best version of WCC: www.nytimes.com/athletic/615...

Re: UConn: We can talk about the point guard issue, the (in)ability to defend without fouling, injuries — all of it. It's all valid. But end of the day, where is the physicality that UConn enforced on people the last two seasons? That's glaringly absent today compared to how St. John's plays.

Duke goes #AnalyticallyFinal on Illinois at the 12:35 mark with the Blue Devils leading 75-42. Duke is an absolute tank. After this one concludes, the Blue Devils will have a 20-1 record since Thanksgiving.

For anyone wondering why Duke is the #1 team at EvanMiya.com (by just a hair over Auburn and Houston):

Goodness gracious. Duke on a 9-0 run out of halftime (in only 2:30) to take a 26-point lead on Illinois... Total beatdown. Wow. Thought Duke would win, and likely cover, but this is something else.

15 of 18 from 2. Zero of 16 from 3. One of the craziest halftime box scores I've ever seen

This... is an ass-kicking by Duke right now. Sheesh. Jon Scheyer had his guys ready to play, and a hell of a plan, too. And Cooper Flagg hasn't even had to go nuclear. I know Illinois is shorthanded, but still. Incredibly impressive effort by the Blue Devils so far.

Before 5PM today… - Oklahoma (maybe) clinches its first NCAAT berth of the Porter Moser era - Oregon comes back from down 17 — on the road! — to beat red-hot Wisconsin - Wake Forest about to take an unforgivable L to 10-16 NC State to move to the wrong side of the bubble

Probably not the shot Rick Barnes wanted, but hey: still went in. Vols on the verge of dealing A&M its second straight loss, and completing their second straight comeback. Big win in terms of Tennessee trying to sure up a 2 seed.

why why WHY do you touch that???

Chaz Lanier's ridiculous first half — 22 of Tennessee's 36 points, 6 made 3s (!!) — has the Vols up 4 at the half vs. A&M. What a remarkable half of shot-making. But also worth noting? A&M (No. 1 nationally in off. rebound %) has 7 offensive boards... but only 2 second-chance points.

On Michigan State, index cards, and a rivalry win that revealed some old truths. www.nytimes.com/athletic/615...

A jam-packed 12 hours of hoop coming up. We have a pair of top-10 games in No. 6 Tennessee vs. No. 7 Texas A&M and No. 8 Iowa State vs. No. 5 Houston, a first-place A10 battle between George Mason and VCU, Cooper Flagg vs. Illinois at the Garden, and Saint Mary's vs. Gonzaga.

NEW @theathletic.bsky.social: This week’s Court Vision, hitting on: - Which coaches are on the hot seat as the season winds down? - The Final Four dark horse nobody saw coming - A scheduling quirk that may become a fixture www.nytimes.com/athletic/615...

Here are the top performing lineups in CBB this year at EvanMiya.com, adjusted for opponent strength. Minimum 200 possessions. Clemson's new starting lineup has been the best group in the country by a good margin. Houston, Duke, Purdue, and Auburn also in the top 5.

Louisville has been the perfect spot for Chucky Hepburn, who has connected with Pat Kelsey. In this story, Hepburn also shares his mental health journey and the losses that motivate him: www.nytimes.com/athletic/613...

A beautiful, haunting, read from @cjmoorehoops.bsky.social on Louisville point guard Chucky Hepburn, and how learning to show off his shield is finally paying dividends for Hepburn and the Cards: www.nytimes.com/athletic/613...

NEW @theathletic.bsky.social: This week’s Court Vision, hitting on: - Which coaches are on the hot seat as the season winds down? - The Final Four dark horse nobody saw coming - A scheduling quirk that may become a fixture www.nytimes.com/athletic/615...

UNC hired a law firm to explore leaving the ACC. What is "Carolina Blue Matter" and is it more than North Carolina officials doing their due diligence on college conference realignment? @brendanmarks.bsky.social joined me & Giglio to discuss. linktr.ee/ogtriangleme...

Jon Scheyer with an injury update this morning on Maliq Brown: "Positive news. There's nothing abnormal that you aren't ready to see, with a dislocated shoulder. We're optimistic we can get him back this season." Says they did all the imaging. He'll be out a few weeks minimum, though.

NEW w/ @mattbakercfb.bsky.social: For the first time since @theathletic.bsky.social reported on "the Carolina Blue Matter" — UNC's codename for exploring conference realignment — North Carolina athletic director Bubba Cunningham explained the Tar Heels' thinking: www.nytimes.com/athletic/614...

A follow-up to my reporting on Carolina Blue with @brendanmarks.bsky.social. N.C. attorney David McKenzie has filed a lawsuit against UNC. He alleges the school has violated the state's public records law by not providing full legal bills for the Carolina Blue Matter. www.nytimes.com/athletic/613...

Love love LOVE this @cjmoorehoops.bsky.social story on Missouri's turnaround. How did Dennis Gates take the Tigers from 0-18 in the SEC last season to the AP top-25 today? “We had to be a participant in our own rescue." www.nytimes.com/athletic/614...

NEW @theathletic.bsky.social: This week's national mailbag, with responses from @cjmoorehoops.bsky.social and myself (and Bluesky-less Lindsay Schnell): www.nytimes.com/athletic/614...

Did not have Purdue and Texas A&M getting run on my BINGO card tonight. Huh.

FINAL: No. 1 Auburn 94, No. 2 Alabama 85 Tigers didn't trail all game, and even when Bama (briefly) tied it, Auburn had an answer. To win this one like this — on the road, after Cardwell and Baker-Mazara fouled out, with Broome's ankle acting up — is as impressive as it gets. First SEC 1 vs. 2 >

Yep, Flagrant, and it also means CBM fouls out. Now Auburn down Cardwell and CBM...

Does look like it's gonna be a Flagrant 1 on CBM for swiping at Youngblood's face. Just... why?

Oh no, Johni Broome.
