Saw a few of these in Sunderland today. Odd place for the Telegraph to be making a push. All a bit Michael Howard c.2005 'Are you thinking what we're thinking?'

1. Overnight, federal officials began what one advocacy group is calling "the largest eviction of a homeless camp in recent history." @hansonmphoto and I spent the last two days in the forest alongside desperate people trying to find a place to go: www.nytimes.com/2025/05/01/r...

Homelessness in England is spiking, and so is the use of temporary accommodation. Hear from people living in temporary accommodation in the City of Westminster about their experiences and what needs to change👇 z2k.org/frozen-in-ti...

New Study 🔔: More than 7M Americans face eviction each year. But if they go to court, most do it alone, without a lawyer. Our researchers studied the initiatives that are trying to change this reality, known as Right to Counsel programs or RTC. evictionlab.org/disrupting-t...

Today in Parliament @joepowell.bsky.social asked whether there will be a National Oversight Mechanism to ensure recommendations from public inquiries, like the Grenfell Tower inquiry, lead to meaningful change. Support the call for a National Oversight Mechanism: www.inquest.org.uk/no-more-deat...

A few days left to vote (Metroland), please...

BBC London news this morning was a story about London Councils' temporary accomodation costs, and then a story about primary school closures in the capital... Doesn't take much to join the dots.

Love an election... Australia House today. Could have sworn there were some blue Liberal posters when I passed on the bus earlier, but all gone by the time I left work.

🚨No, this isn’t an April Fool’s joke. 🤡 As of today (1 April), housing benefits are frozen until 2026. This is pushing people deeper into poverty and towards homelessness.

Today, the Housing, Communities and Local Govt. Committee asked the Building Safety Minister if the Govt. will set up a National Oversight Mechanism to ensure recommendations from the Grenfell Tower inquiry are implemented.

Looking forward to a day at #CIHTAI2025 tomorrow - give me a shout if you're about and fancy a coffee/natter.

Why we don’t need Westminster to tackle destitution in Scotland. I'm delighted to have co-written this piece in today's Herald with my @i-sphere.bsky.social colleague Rhiannon Sims... www.heraldscotland.com/politics/vie...

April is #BowelCancer awareness month. We produced a guide, in partnership with the NHS, which you can view here: groundswell.org.uk/wpdm-package... This one is London-centric but has some guidance that is useful for anyone who wants to learn more. It's also available in 15 languages.

The Dales looking flippin lovely today. As ever, grateful to @dalesbus.bsky.social for opening it up without the need for a car.

'If today the library didn't already exist, it's hard to imagine our society's leaders inventing it' << This statement makes me so sad, because it's surely true, at least of political leaders.

Record numbers of kids living like this. It's costing us billions in temporary accomodation bills now, and more importantly, risks costing those kids their futures. Good to see the Childrens' Commissioner and @kwajo.bsky.social on the case. news.sky.com/story/childr...

Good to see more evidence of the impact of Right to Counsel in NYC. When systems change, so do outcomes.

📣 “If we could make change, and we do not … we call it what it is: injustice.” ✊🏾 Powerful words from @maggiechapman.bsky.social last night - challenging Scottish Govt to commit to positive steps to end migrant #NRPF destitution in #Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🏡
