It cannot be overstated how messed up it is that the U.S. is trying to extort an allied country, that is in the middle of a war for survival, and trying to get them to sign over their natural resources, or get cut off from military support and communication infrastructure. The United States appears to be in violation of the Budapest Memorandum which disarmed Ukraine of nuclear weapons in exchange for security guarantees. The agreement signed by the US in 1994 specifically prohibits economic coercion against Ukraine.
