Unabashedly eclectic & idiosyncratic, drawing from many sources, mainly post-punk/industrial & classical. Formal training in classical music theory & composition, plus an abiding love of rock music & its various descendants. A few film scoring credits.

Kids now don't understand how it used to be...drivers harrowed daily by the disembodied heads of big cats. Therefore fast cars.

YouTube video that just popped up in my feed: Music Theory in 16 Minutes Stop, you're killing me

Invocation continues to be my most streamed track, a fact that surprises me but also makes me quite grateful to whoever is listening! briantibbs.bandcamp.com/track/invoca... #MusicSky #MusicianSky

Easter this year is April 20...in Cleveland. Everybody else...who knows? #AlgorithmSucks

No Warning: a masterpiece of unease from the quasi-industrial-influenced B side of Three of a Perfect Pair. www.youtube.com/watch?v=_DiH...

With so many posting about David Lynch these days, I've not seen a single mention of his 1999 film The Straight Story. There, I've mentioned it.

Oh, how I love this cue from Goldsmith's score for Planet of the Apes, especially the percussion at about 4:05 which, I believe, were metal mixing bowls. 👍 www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3Hq...

Name the movie: 3 hours of Laura Dern looking perplexed

Work from anywhere, they said

Just heard about David Lynch passing, too soon. My introduction to Lynch was Blue Velvet, a film that left a deep impression.

In my experience, YouTube continues to be the best platform for getting "discovered" - it is by far the biggest source of new organic streams/listens of my music. Too bad I don't l get a penny from it!

Polanski's The Ninth Gate: when I saw this back in the day my response was "meh". But I just re-watched it and, though it is imperfect, it's better than I remember.

Listening to the latest Flock of Seagulls album has me convinced I'm in a time warp and it's still 1982. One look in the mirror and I know that's not right.

On the slate for 2025: collaboration. Since returning to music, I've been running solo, but am working toward collabs with interesting local artists, once of which is a bassoon player (of all things). 🤔

In one of those periods where I just keep smashing into musical walls. Which will give first...the wall or my skull?

Love how the tragic Duel of the Fates is an inverted variation of the heroic main Star Wars theme. I honestly only realized that within the last year or so. Go figure.

Putting the finishing touches on a new song about the transience and significance of "now", part of a new album I hope to release this Spring 🤞

Who remembers Propaganda magazine?

New single: Sacred Space 1...a tad weird, but I like it! A sonic imagining of religion in a post-industrial wasteland, using the medieval chant Dies Irae (Day of Wrath). Some might call it ambient noise, but I'd prefer "sound drama". open.spotify.com/album/05opSF... #MusicSky #experimental

New single: Steel & Honey. Industrial-inspired electronica, fusing gritty textures & unconventional electronics w/ melodic, almost sugary choruses. Midway, it turns darker, more intense, with dissonance & driving rhythms creating a tension-filled climax. open.spotify.com/album/1iCMkV...

It's the energy put into elaboration that distinguishes art from mere content, the work of an individual solving problems, editing. This is why technology-generated stuff "feels" so cheap...it is. Just a thought.

Both counting... #MementoMori

🙏 to Prog Sphere for reviewing my album At The Edge: "sonic landscape that is both haunting and hopeful, resonating deeply...an album that demands attention, not just for its musical innovation but for its profound exploration of the human condition" www.prog-sphere.com/2024/08/05/a... #MusicianSky

Ahhhh...I've been misunderstanding that line all these many years! #StarWars

Yup. Who needs reality (or friends) when there’s music?

What happens if we are unmoored from reality? My new song delves into that. Enigmatic harmonies, driven by a walking bass, set a backdrop for synths alternating aggressive jabs w/ soft caresses. Layered vocals speak of arrogance & reckoning. #MusicianSky #MusicSky open.spotify.com/album/6QCCpJ...
