Mark Carney has chosen Toronto MP and former public safety Minister Marco Mendicino as his first chief of staff. Mendicino will serve on an interim basis, two sources close to the Carney camp told the Star.

How many trans college athletes is the GOP ripping America apart over? The NCAA says less than 10. And then it banned them from competing. 19thnews.org/2025/02/ncaa...

As a proud Canadian-owned and operated company, we want to do our part to support Canadians. As a family we have decided to absorb all immediate increases in our costs due to the Trump-tariffs for the rest of the year to maintain our prices. We will continue to reinforce our Canadian-first policies.

Mayor of Montreal in Washington, talking on CBC now, about the realization that strikes every Canadian visiting Washington: The mega-story that has captured our unmitigated national attention is just one story among several here. 1/2

Boy, if I thought the euphemism "event centre" was an annoying thing to call an arena.... Nothing, no nothing, could prepare me for the rhetorical violence of "Event park"

We can no longer rely on America. This is how we forge a new place in the world. Finding new markets needs to become a Canadian obsession. While America paints itself into a corner by declaring trade war on everybody, Canada needs to figure out how to trade with anybody. #Opinion

"Do I have something in my teeth?" Photo taken in the Khutzeymateen Grizzly Bear Sanctuary, the first area in Canada to be protected specifically for Grizzly Bears and their habitat. It would be wonderful to see more areas like this protected. #wildlife #conservation

“Alberta Health Services wrote off the Turkish inventory in 2023-24, valuing the massive stockpile at $0, according to the documents. Alberta paid roughly $20.4-million for the 1.4 million bottles of acetaminophen and ibuprofen it is now looking to unload, according to the documents.”

Melanie Joly does a great job in this interview. I myself was so frustrated with Amanpour’s seeming incredulity. No. Attacking our economy and our sovereignty is not a joke. Yes. This is the end of an era. I am so impressed that Joly kept her cool. I don’t think I could have done so.

It’s unsustainable to operate on this kind of roller coaster. And I’m sure that’s the point. I hope the bulk of our efforts are being spent (federally and provincially) on limiting how much we rely on the US. For anything.

RCMP confirmed it is investigating allegations related to Alberta Health Services and Alberta Health. “Following a review, the RCMP has begun an investigation into the matter. As this is an ongoing investigation, no further details are available at this time.”

"...Mr. Ford said the electricity charge was happening, regardless of any pause on the U.S. tariffs, until the threat of the trade levies against Canada is completely withdrawn."

One thing I love about this time of the year is watching all the nest-building in Central Park. Here a Red-bellied Woodpecker is hard at work. Males often build several nests--and the female makes the final choice. 😍😍😍 #woodpeckers #CentralPark #birdsseenin2025

An important point to keep in mind today: the USMCA theoretically covers nearly all goods traded between Canada and US. In practice, a large numbers of exporters both in US and Canada don't use USMCA process because it adds a lot of complexities (parts of origin rules, wage rules, etc).

🙄

From the official photos: You can tell a pretty good story with just the hand gestures the PM made during his call with the American president yesterday.

Alberta is not yet one of the provinces with a deal to extend child care agreements. We are still negotiating. #ableg

U.S. debt completely unsustainable. The result: higher borrowing costs. Never before (at least since 1870) has their govt borrowing rate exceeded Canada’s by as much as it does now. My latest for @TheHubCanada: thehub.ca/2025/03/06/... #cdnecon #cdnpoli

Ownership of hundreds of hospitals, care centres, and other assets will be transferred from AHS to Alberta Infrastructure. The transfer of titles “will allow for us to choose the operator, and it will allow us to repurpose them to our needs,” Premier Danielle Smith said. #ableg #abpoli

Today’s @theglobeandmail.com

Former Alberta Premier Jason Kenney posted this on Twitter / X this afternoon: "To the very online MAGA North crowd: stop embarrassing yourselves by defending this lunacy."

Today the same as yesterday, and for the foreseeable future. Sigh.

"Alberta fully supports the Federal response announced today by the Prime Minister". Whew.

The government being investigated selected and retained the investigator, who will also report directly to said government. I think we are playing fast and loose with the definition of 'independent' here.

Good Lord, @effinbirds.com, you really are the Shitty Nostradamus.

Elbows Up. #teamcanada

Happening Weds @ 9 a.m. online. This is surely going to be an interesting panel. @markusoff.bsky.social @jlisayoung.bsky.social, @gabrielagonzalezla.bsky.social & Michael Solberg will be dissecting the Alberta budget & the wild political times we're living through. I'll be moderating.

NEW: Trudeau says if US tariffs come into effect tonight, Canada will, effective 12:01 am EST tmrw, respond w/ 25% tariffs against $155 billion of US goods starting w/ $30 billion worth immediately, $125 billion in 21 days’ time. In an extraordinary display of public support, heads of state, heads of government, and foreign ministers from all over Europe and Canada are posting in support of Ukraine in response to the Oval Office meeting with Trump, Zelenskyy, and Vance.

"History will remember this day— when an American President and Vice President abandoned all we stand for."

Alberta: Tax averse, but not fiscally conservative.

PSA: This will now be just a fan account for Trudy's ears.
