Audible gasp! A double whammy of one of my favourite people taking about one of my favourite films!

OK, I'm going in on the Bergerac reboot. Only have vague memories of the original as I was a child when it aired, but the cast (Molony, Wanamaker, Glenister) is v. promising.

Brilliant to be joined by comedian Angela Barnes on the latest Monstrosities Mon Amour, to explore the joy of Brighton’s much maligned Marina, and a midcentury shop sign font called Festive johngrindrod.substack.com/p/monstrosit...

South London public transport is the final subject on Pointless. I would have killed that one. Of course, if I was ever a Pointless finalist, I'd probably get cricket, or I'm A Celebrity contestants.

Sunshine and sea through your ears. A sound postcard from East Sussex, recorded last week. Episode 258 - Tidal breakers on Winchelsea beach (30mins) A perfect sound capture of the empty beach between Winchelsea and Rye Harbour. Listen with headphones > bit.ly/LenWSea3

Just finished series 3 of #BigBoys Oh god, it's so good. Hilarious and brilliant and devastating, and every character so real and alive. All the hats off to writer Jack Rooke and the whole cast. 👏👏👏

Today I brought you this spectacled owl:

Episode 245 - Night rain on the edge of the Quantock hills (49 mins) 🎧 Listen during the day while you work or at night while you sleep. Find us here on YouTube or wherever you get your podcasts.

Happy #HillfortWednesday! Take a look at the distinctive Figsbury Ring in Wiltshire 👇 The ancient property features two sites in one, with a Neolithic henge included inside a later, Iron Age hill fort. Find out more - buff.ly/4jOlblT

I wrote this about anti-wokeness, which is nothing more than a rebadged do-over of the tedious political correctness panics of my childhood. On how anti-woke, like 'politically incorrect' before it, is just a politically correct term for 'a dickhead'. www.irishexaminer.com/lifestyle-co...

Simon's in a thing! (I don't really understand the thing, but if it leads to him being in more things, I'm all for it)

📯NEW EPISODE!!! 😁This week You’re Dead To Me tackles the medieval legends and literature about King Arthur With fantastic comedian Mike Wozniak and expert historian @mareganlefay.bsky.social. Listen on BBC SOUNDS now, or wait a month for it to arrive on apps www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...

@peterchilvers.com I saw this and thought of you. Probably a bit short notice and impossible with your new addition though.

And now for Tomorrow's Government

Just walked past a mum and young kids arriving excitedly at a house to be greeted just as excitedly by another mum and young kids. Oh, except for the three year old, who demanded loudly in the weariest voice you ever heard, "Why are you here AGAIN?" Sympathies from a grown up.

This weekend is the last chance to see the Winter Lights outdoor sculpture trail at Canary Wharf. I love a sculpture trail, and this was a really good one. Here are some of my favourites, taken last week.

Accidentally bought two kilos of carrots. Anyone got any good recipe ideas to use them up? (not soup)

German artist Mary Bauermeister, Steinspirale (stone spiral), 2011 #WomensArt

Downs in Winter, Eric Ravilious, 1935. A classic view of the Southdowns in East #Sussex. The original artwork is in the collection of the Towner Gallery in Eastbourne. #Ravilious

A change of scene without leaving your desk. 🎧 Episode 75 - Bobbing boats on the estuary at Wrabness Sit under a tree on the footpath along the beach in Essex. Listen to the gentle lapping of the water and masts of the boats tinkling in the breeze. bit.ly/LenWrab1

I became a fan of cycling in 2022 and have subscribed to Discovery+ ever since, solely for cycling. It costs £6.99 per month, and I cancel it in the winter when there's no cycling. Total cost: £55.92 They've now cancelled the Standard sub & the replacement is £30.99 PER MONTH. Goodbye, cycling. 😢

I’m continuing to call on Bromley Conservatives to cancel their cruel plans to charge disabled Blue Badge holders They’d be the first and only London Council to do so. It’s time they listened to local residents who are overwhelmingly opposed 👇 www.mylondon.news/news/south-l...

Save the Prince Charles Cinema, simply the best, most reasonably priced cinema in London, with by far the widest range of films. #SaveThePCC ⬇️

Auschwitz was at the end of a long process. It did not start from gas chambers. This hatred was gradually developed by humans. From ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder. Auschwitz took time.

Some quiet calm if you need it tonight. Episode 98 - A ship that passes in the night (sleep safe) Maybe the most relaxing episode we have ever made? Listen with headphones > bit.ly/LenShp

This is the last time I will post about The Traitors until January 2026. Normal service now resumes.

If anyone has #TheTraitorsUK withdrawal symptoms, I recommend The Traitors NZ S1 on iPlayer. Two notes (no spoilers): 1 This series is different to any of the other Traitors series I have seen in that the Faithful mostly work as a team rather than just picking off anyone different/ smart/ quiet.

Seems Bluesky is pretty universally dissatisfied with #TheTraitorsuk winners. Groupthink means the Faithful herd consistently vote out the smart/weird/POC. In all 3 series, the winners have been, basically, the popular kids at school. The 'click'. Obviously, that's triggering for a lot of us here!

Just realised the people I wanted to win the least have now won all 3 series of #TheTraitorsuk 😒 Who I actually wanted to win: Linda & Minah - iconic traitors Fozia - shafted by the Death Match twist Charlotte - shafted by the Seer twist Alexander - too smart to be trusted by the herd Faithful

BOOOOOOOO!!! Least satisfying winners since Series 1. #TheTraitorsuk

Yep, I knew it. The Faithful never trust a smart person, so it's always the most conventional, conventionally-thinking dummies that make the end. Bah. Don't want any of them to win now. #TheTraitorsuk

Enjoyed Radio 4's Screenshot on Mike Leigh. It's been 30 years (!) since I wrote my university dissertation on his films. Also the first time I ever used a computer. I didn't own one (no-one I knew did) and had to use the one my Saturday job had for their accounts. www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...

Final theory 3: Alexander, this series' Jaz, i.e. the guy who's too smart for the usual conventional idiots who always make #TheTraitorsuk final to trust / let win, does something brilliant. Final theory 4: There's another twist that negates all my previous theories. God, I love this show.

Final theory 2: Charlotte convinces J & L that Frankie is lying and is a traitor herself, working with her 'son'. They vote out A & F; C takes the cash. However, as J & L are the usual conventional idiots who always make #TheTraitorsuk final, they only trust each other & vote her out anyway.

Final theory 1: Jake & Leanne (the usual conventional, gullible, idiots who always make the final) will now not trust & vote out Charlotte, Frankie and Alexander. The only way A & F can win if is F realises A must now be a Faithful, and they agree to vote out L, then possibly J too. #TheTraitorsuk

When someone confidently chooses Grand Slam tennis in the Pointless final, suggesting they know loads about tennis... ... and two of their answers are Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray. 🤦🤦🤦

Whoop whoop! New Taskmaster coming soon!

For Blue Monday we can't think of anything more appropriate than this charming depiction of a man getting his face eaten off by a leopard. #MosaicMonday
