To clarify, it is not taking place today as in 29 January, but is *about* Dante today, now, in our moment! (Taking place February 6!)

I've just reviewed this book for Tears in the Fence, and I have just sorted out my own version of Dante, early version of which abandoned here: robertsheppard.blogspot.com/2024/12/on-a...

We hope you can all join us for this wonderful event on Dante Today! Professor Philip Terry (University of Essex) will read some cantos from his recent translation and relocating of Dante’s Purgatorio, where the poet and his guide climb a mountain made out of Flexible Rock Substitute (FRS).

Fascinating reading tonight by Ruth Padel of her poems ‘The Many Lives of the Snake Goddess’, courtesy @bristolpoetry.bsky.social. Here’s one I found earlier on Dartmoor. (A snake, not a poem.) Unlike the goddess I didn’t pick it up & wave it in the air. I picked my collie up & sidled past sharpish.

TODAY at 5PM GMT, join us in person or online. In person joiners even get free drinks! Snakes, drinks, archaeological revelations, poetry. I mean.

🐍Thursday🐍 Join us for The Many Lives of a Snake Goddess w/ Ruth Padel. As part of the presentation, there will also be an archaeological discussion about the Snake Goddess figurines found at Knossos (Crete) a century ago that inspired the poetry we'll hear. Two snakes for one! Free hybrid event!

Watchable in real life (Bristol) and online, so no excuse for missing it!

Coming up on 16 November! We are collaborating with Bristol's Institute for Greece, Rome, and the Classical Tradition to host The Many Lives of a Snake Goddess: New Poems by Ruth Padel. Please join us. All are welcome to this hybrid event! poetry.blogs.bristol.ac.uk/2023/11/03/t...
