I’ve worked in and around international development a long time and I can tell you that, yes, USAID saves lives and reduces poverty, but the biggest benefit to the US is the insanely good will it promotes. Billions of people manage to still think positively about this country because of USAID.

My mother put a pot of potatoes on the gas stove to boil, covered it, walked away, it boiled over onto the grates and the burner and down into the catchment tray underneath. Multiple layers of starchy water all over the wires and the hob, and now the burner won't work. Folks, just get induction.
