Guys, I figured out how to defeat existential despair. You quit caffeine and then have a latte for the first time in months and then you’re irrationally fearless and ready to fly to DC to do, idk, STUFF.

Musk has bought $40 million worth of ads in tonight's Superbowl just to attack USAID. That’s right, the richest man in the world wasted $40M to complain about an organization that helps ppl in need around the world.

Don’t doom scroll, just do what I do and search “federal judge” every 12 hours.

I just lost my job, along with most of my coworkers, due to the illegal grant freeze. I worked at an organization that -helped veterans who have lost a limb -Assisted elderly and disabled people -Helped hospitals better treat people who have lost limbs

Living in the US right now is like being in Breath of the Wild; you go outside and it’s beautiful and the people can be very kind and working towards a better world, and for no reason there’s a deranged, sadistic death cult lurking beneath the surface that’s like, “being evil is good, actually.”

Planting a tree every time I’m furious. At this rate, I will completely destroy my house’s foundation within 10 years.

I’ve worked in and around international development a long time and I can tell you that, yes, USAID saves lives and reduces poverty, but the biggest benefit to the US is the insanely good will it promotes. Billions of people manage to still think positively about this country because of USAID.

The attacks on USAID are so telling about the whole blinkered worldview of this admin of goons. The cost to the US is minuscle, the benefits to recepients massive, the capacity to manage crisis abroad sustained, and they're happy to destroy it because they cannot concieve of anyone else as human.

So if I’m understanding today correctly, the world’s richest person Elon Musk, whom no one elected, is taking over federal payment systems and employee data while the federal employees who investigate and prosecute public corruption are being fired en masse.

I don't want to be ableist or something but why does this man sound like a bridge toll goblin who got kicked in the chest for trying to extract a bribe from the goblin general

Focus on 1 or 2 things. Go deep on those. Focus on "news" about those things first and foremost. Think about the concrete actions you can take to impact those ONE or TWO things.

Ten years ago, when I was living on an NSF grant, and administering it myself as an independent researcher affiliated with MIT, I learned how delicate these things can be: grant and fellowship funding is not play money. It is grocery money. It is oil heating money. It is the life's blood.

Pretty soon a good number of voters who thought they were voting for someone to repair a few outlets and tune up the furnace to make it more efficient will wake up to realize that a swarm of workers spent a week taking their house down to the studs and then disappeared, never to be seen again.

As this "pause" hits you and your project, institution, workplace, etc: TELL SOMEONE ABOUT IT. Contact your MoC, esp if they're a Dem. Contact a relevant advocacy group. Contact the press, local, regional, movement, trade - and not just for an LtE, for a story. Tell real life stories of harm.

Generative AI is essentially copy paste but with large datasets analyzed probabilistically. Maybe that's useful but it's not intelligence and doesn't justify the absurd amounts of investment it's attracted

As expected, the Trump team is already deleting climate info from government websites. In anticipation, our team at Urban Ocean Lab created a permanent archive of 100+ key resources and published a permanent archive: www.urbanoceanlab.org/resource-hub 👩🏽‍💻

Saw this at the Berkley Apple Store today. I love this anal nanny state town. This should be a notice on every cell phone.

A great piece on a very important subject I could yell about for hours. Tangentially, I don’t think people realize how much the increase in cost of living in the Bay Area and the growing monopoly on wheelchair sale/repair companies has changed the lives of disabled folks who live here.

everyday i wake up and fall out of bed and hit my head on the corner of the nightstand. it's stained with blood now, due to my numerous head wounds that have begun to fester. then, i eat breakfast and head to my job at the New York Times

mutual aid. love. compassion. boycotts. protests. care. drive less. eat less beef. eat more beans. cook for your neighbors. fight for the unhoused. sow. reap.

I mean is walking medically necessary, really? Ghouls.

Unsurprisingly, most people would like to have a habitable planet—for themselves, for their kids, and for the incredibly riotous variety of life we share it with.

If you've enjoyed the news in the last 24 hours then you're gonna love this new thing we've been working on called *~class consciousness~*

All of you should just be grateful that you even have a health insurance overlord.

I'll be more annoying: prosthetic arms are innocent here for once, they have nothing to do with AI hallucinations. (seriously though, this article is correct)

Here's a secret: If you live in a major metropolitan area, the utterly absurd infrastructural apparatuses necessary for you to get Amazon "next day delivery" have already been laid down. You don't need to pay for Prime, it all comes next day regardless because that's logistics.

Mushroom at the end of the world, be here to love me at the end of the world, last murder at the end of the world-- Okay okay I get it it! The end times are in fashion, can we move onto the next, more imaginative fad please?

Nothing says alpha like leaving your multimillion dollar island compound to fly 8+ hours to have dinner with the guy who said he wants to put you in jail, and then fly straight back.

I'd like to go back to when the creative arts were interesting and made you think thoughts rather than just make you addicted, lose all your money, or become a maniac.

I don’t know who needs to hear this but you don’t have to buy anything on black friday. Like I know it seems that way but there’s not actually a law

My mother put a pot of potatoes on the gas stove to boil, covered it, walked away, it boiled over onto the grates and the burner and down into the catchment tray underneath. Multiple layers of starchy water all over the wires and the hob, and now the burner won't work. Folks, just get induction.
