Coming out of our live stream this morning, I had some momentum, so here's a video of creating a type-safe, autocomplete-able Heading component with @astro.build. This showcases component building techniques AND shows off built-in Typescript features in Astro. Neat! www.youtube.com/watch?v=xS3S...

Often my video stills are terrible, but this one... this one I kinda like...

Going live to build a component library for small agencies. Too long have tools focused primarily on enterprise! Small agencies do a LOT of work and deserver their own tooling, too! youtube.com/live/Gze7iOK...

Woke up feeling like maybe a stream to play with some code today. I'm thinking of rolling my own little @astro.build component library (maybe for future content). Would anyone be interested in that? Maybe 10 or 10:30 EST?

I love the idea of adversity tokens from Kids on Bikes (and Magical Kitties). When you fail a roll in the game, you get a token that's a +1 for a later roll (kitties allows more powers) I wonder if something similar would be good for kids that struggle with losing board games...

I'm starting to lay out a mission for something I'm very serious about: Play. I'm thinking through a few directions to go, but I know that giving folks places for and permission to play is something I could spend my life on. I'd be curious to get your take on the mission statement whenweplay.org

Hey, Google, I just wanted a picture of a toy Jack... I don't want to buy one... Why are you dumping me straight into your shopping interface (without even acknowledging it in the "active tab")? (I mean, i know why...)

Uh oh... I just started up an @astro.build project locally and we're all the way up to port 4324... I may have too many projects that I haven't shut down....

If we hadn't centered "Content" (Yarrrr!) as integral to business marketing, would we be in the shitstorm of GenAI that we find ourselves in today?

I gave a talk yesterday and the Q&A was amazing. Very first question centered on a bit where I talked about "Play" and I got to talk about how to get into a "Play Mindset" with code. Still forming my ideas around it, but here's a bit of my response www.youtube.com/shorts/AvU92...

We're getting ready to kick off day 2 of TheJam[dot]dev in just 1 hour and you can still join us for some great speakers today: Jo Franchetti, Bryan Robinson, Rizèl Scarlett, Jen Looper and Cassidy Williams! Don't miss out! https://buff.ly/40Uo5Nc

Fighting back the very beginning part of a cold to make sure I'm still fit for this virtual talk. Give me all the tea and vitamins!

If you're a developer, you're powerful. You can use that power in interesting ways to help control your experience on the web. Later today, I'm presenting at TheJam.dev. Insights, inspiration, a few salty takes and some philosophy. I'd love to see you in chat!

Just found a place in Cincinnati that is a "Play library" that is open for adults and kids, and let's folks check out board games and toys. Is there a place like that where you are? Can you easily get access to things that help open the door to play of various types?

Real talk: If you're able, writing with pencil and paper will make you a better writer than typing. Every time.

I think this might be true and might be the quote of my mid-life crisis…

Starting to read "play" by Stuart Brown, and (maybe unbeknownst to him), one of his early tenets is basically the Taoist notion of Inner Nature. That's a very good start. Ask me a riddle, and I reply: Cottleston, Cottleston Cottleston Pie.

YOLO video creation today. Here's the video version of my "Do our tools work for us?" article. Overall, I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out youtu.be/h3DF8c_PL6M

Another question to my friends who play games with kids: After the gameplay, do you find the children like to talk about and "relive" what happened in the game? A couple examples 🧵

Very much looking forward to talking at cfe.dev/events/the-j... in a week. What an all-star lineup to be amongst! I'll be giving an intro to Deno for those of you who have 'heard of Deno but not had time to try it yet'. Tickets are free, so what are you waiting for?!
