$$$$ Ky Dickens' Telepathy Tapes merch - great representation of the brainwashing and also being completely inadequate as a form of sun protection. Whoever came up with this one was prioritising the merch $$ over the message.

Propaganda.

I used my very best am-dram skills in this video because once again those with Developmental Language Disorder were forgotten. #TheForgottenMillion #DevLangDis

This article maps what's currently known about the related skills of English-speaking children who produce typical vs. atypical phonological errors, summarizing current evidence for clinical decision making concerning atypical phonological errors. on.asha.org/4kecT75

Every time I teach about standard language ideology in my Sociolinguistics course, I make it a point to stand on the table and bellow, "YOU HAVE AN ACCENT," to everyone. If they remember nothing else from my course, I sure hope they remember this.

Mealtimes should be nourishing - both physiologically & emotionally. But, hospital eating environments in mental health wards don't always create the best setting for healing. Take a look at our animation with @susanguthrieslt.bsky.social exploring patient stories: vimeo.com/1041186684...

SOME things that go along with #GLPNLA 1. Claims of hyperlexia 2. Claims of hypernumeracy 3. Claims they need whole literacy not phonics 4. Underestimates the child’s ability to acquire language single words or answer questions (at odd with claims of presuming competence) 5. Pushing FC/S2C (hazard)

The most clicked-on article from the January @speechbite.bsky.social newsletter was a systematic review looking at gestalt language processing and natural language acquisition bit.ly/4i45Eg9 It's open access! #SLPeeps #SLP2B #SLT #bskySPEECHIES

Couple of recent reports for work by consultants have used AI generated automated alt text descriptions for images. Many of them are useless, and some are hilariously bad. A kind of performative “compliance”, where the need for accessibility is acknowledged, but done as cheaply as possible.

… “he personifies the bad-faith tactics of conspiracy theorists globally, “selling” the flawed premise that any assertion is valid until others prove it false.” If you say something works, it’s up to you to prove it, not up to others to disprove it.

🧞 Wishing for a safe pair of hands. A reason Kennedy poses a threat to public health in the US & globally is his lack of trust in science. He believes a narrative can be crafted by cherry-picking any study that fits with his world view, regardless of its quality. theconversation.com/in-robert-f-...

Due to popular demand I will add in some FAQ slides. Here are the top five Qs: “Have the GLP/NLA developers responded to your journal article?” “What do we do instead?” “What about kids who use singing?” “Will it ever be evidence-based?” #GestaltLanguageProcessing #NaturalLanguageAcquisition

This raw, honest, and powerful podcast with #devlangdis activists Siouxsie @mydldlife and her Mum Rachel, is an absolute must listen for SLTs, teachers, and those with family members with #devlangdis thedldproject.com/dld-creativi...

And here it is in Greek! A 2-min vid on our systematic review of #GestaltlanguageProcessing #NaturalLanguageAcquisition I translated it back to English -fairly close/close enough as to be potentially useful. Let me know if it makes sense to you, if you speak Greek. app.heygen.com/share/f30f57...

#CochraneStuff This is getting complicated, so I've started a page to keep track of what I post about the Cochrane Collaboration across platforms: hildabastian.wordpress.com/cochrane-stu... New today: My open letter asking the Cochrane Board questions about transparency of governance and minutes.

Here is a short pilot vid under 2 mins explaining our systematic review of #GestaltLanguageProcessing #NaturalLanguageAcquisition and its alerts to clinicians. @carolinebowen.bsky.social @katharinebeals.bsky.social @lucyebryant.bsky.social @drjuliadray.bsky.social app.heygen.com/share/2c4d7a...

If you are resting your case for #GestaltLanguageProcessing and #NaturalLanguageAcquisition on books, unwritten books, or journal articles on research supposedly 15 years in the making but never reported - have you ever asked yourself WHY is it not appearing in any journals or books to date?

Even if promoters of pseudoscience are not intentionally trying to con you, it’s entirely possible that they have conned themselves. - Barry L. Beyerstein

What content would you like to see included in a *short animated film about #GestaltLanguageProcessing and #NaturalLanguageAcquisition (not a “how to”) …

But have you cited it?

This article provides an overview of social determinants of health and health-related social needs with a primary focus on children with traumatic brain injury and describes the Accountable Health Communities screening tool. @sigperspectives.bsky.social

We’ve known about these #healthinequalities for too long, it’s time for systematic change & real health & wellbeing improvements for people with #learningdisabily .Thanks to @uofglasgowsldo.bsky.social for your work on keeping a focus on this terrible disparity.

Literacy development is very important in children with Down syndrome, offering them an additional modality for language. This article from #ASHASIG12 presents a case study showing how AAC technology can promote single-word reading skills on.asha.org/4jXVf78

This is a great example of a clinical “review” of thewe studies relevant to a clinical decision. Well done! caihub.ca/gestalt-lang... #GestaltLanguageProcessing

Would you like to hear from some people with #aphasia about their views on #AI? New podcast from #RCSLT with me and Caitlin Longman. You can also hear Chat GPT over-promise its SLT credentials to support language practice! (Take that bit with a pinch of salt!). m.soundcloud.com/rcslt/how-is...

At #ASHA24 there were 2 papers of systematic reviews of #GestaltLanguageProcessing by SEPARATE research groups! 1. Ours - systematic review - empty 2. Theirs - systematic review - empty Ours had a tighter inclusion criteria. So even a looser inclusion criteria made no difference to the result.
