My favorite instance of this was my friend posting about buying the leg lamp from A Christmas Story. I commented "it's a major award!" and some rando responded "uhhhh you can buy it online" with an amazon link. 15 min later they suddenly started posting quotes as if they knew the whole time 😂

I gently suggest that if you are not already in the habit of a quick google on seemingly left-field comments -- especially if there's further riffing on said comment -- you start now. It takes 3 seconds and you'll avoid lots of failed attempts to seem smart while TOTALLY missing a common reference.
