We have published reflections on the evaluation process of @eurochild-org.bsky.social Daphne-CHILD supporting innovative grassroots initiatives to combat violence against children across 9 European countries "These projects are a bright light in a dark world" daphne.childhub.org/en/child-pro...

1/ In May 2022,the @coe.int European Committee of #SocialRights issued a statement on the crisis caused by Russia’s military aggression against #Ukraine. It made clear that military aggression against another State Party is per se inconsistent with the spirit & purposes of the #EuropeanSocialCharter

Today our Head of Programmes Agata D'Addato joins the DG EAC Early Childhood Education & Care WG. This coincides with the launch of Eurochild's new sub-report showcasing progress & challenges in #earlychildhood development. Explore our recommendations: buff.ly/435L3U8

The US decision to suspend international aid has had a negative impact on millions of people around the world, says the Council of Europe’s #HumanRights commissioner 👇 🔗 www.coe.int/en/web/commi... The 46 @coe.int member states must fill the gap. #Democracy

I’ve never seen a more worrying moment, says @coe.int #HumanRights chief 👇 🔗 www.politico.eu/article/gaza... via @politico.eu

Fantastic to work with such an amazing group of experts. The projects we are considering from across Europe are a beautiful ray of light in these dark times. Such incredible local projects which will make a huge difference to children and their communities.

This week we’re hosting the #DaphneCHILD meeting with Terre des hommes. This 3-year initiative empowers grassroots organisations to tackle #violence against children. We’re selecting projects for €1.3M in grants across 9 countries—with 100+ proposals received! daphne.childhub.org/en/daphne-home

“ #TheRightStart Conf provides an op to highlight role of arts, relationships, & early experiences in realising babies' rights in practice. It was an honour to be one of the drafters of these important #guidingprinciples, which were driven by the excellent work of @rteinitiative.bsky.social. 6 years on they've been cited by a wide range of UN and regional#humanrights entities #righttoeducation #publiceducation

Exciting insights from Faidra, Greek member of Eurochild Children’s Council! In this video, she refers to the #VOICEResearch Accessible Report, highlighting the need for children to be informed & protected online. Their #OnlineSafety is crucial! Read more here: buff.ly/4jMpePD

“William’s story was one of intergenerational trauma & of the lies Scotland tells itself about its treatment of its most vulnerable children.” My @londonreview.bsky.social longread on the Polmont suicides & our failing youth justice system is the culmination of 6 years’ work & means a lot to me.

Hugely concerning reports of abuse made by former child patients at Skye House. Thorough investigation required, but another example of why ScotGov must put in place consistent legal protections for children against unlawful & excessive restraint (recommended by Mental Health Law Review in 2022).

My Welsh Observatory 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 lecture from last year is now up online, along with the incredible lectures from previous years: www.swansea.ac.uk/law/observat...

4.3 million children are in poverty UK govt won’t see progress on child poverty by 2029 even with high economic growth 📢 Our analysis shows under our central scenario only Scotland will see child poverty rates fall by 2029 in part due to social security policies 1/5

Great to be back in old haunts at the UN Office in Geneva 🇺🇳. I’ve spent a lot of time here over the last 20 years and I’m always impressed by the incredible #HumanRightsDefenders from all over the world who come here to work with the international system to deliver change in communities everywhere 🌍

The Consortium has published a new briefing outlining bold, practical actions a potential incoming Scottish Labour government could take to tackle poverty, support communities, and embed human rights at the heart of governance. Read more below 👇 www.hrcscotland.org/file-downloa...

I have an article in the Family Law Journal offering some reflections on The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (Incorporation) (Scotland) Act 2024: the how, the why and looking ahead... www.familylaw.co.uk/news_and_com...

🚨 HRCS has had a busy start to 2025! Charlie's latest blog dives into Scotland’s key human rights and equality issues, highlighted in our recent report to the UN. From the cost-of-living crisis to the stalling of the Human Rights Bill, there’s much to discuss. www.hrcscotland.org/news/news/ch...

CYCJ very much welcomes the ruling last week by the High Court that any criminal prosecutions of a child must comply with the UNCRC Act. Read our full statement: www.cycj.org.uk/news/cycj-we...

The @who.int plays an essential role in protecting children’s rights, especially for the youngest children. International cooperation is essential to protecting life, health, development, and the enjoyment of other rights for children all over the world 🌎. 🇺🇸 withdrawing is a global issue.

📱While digital environments offer educational and social benefits that are key for the healthy development of #children, they also pose significant risks like cyberbullying, sexual abuse and exploitation, and negative mental health outcomes.🚸 🧵👇

Please don’t expound the benefits of child participation while you develop laws & policies without them. An infographic explaining what you should do when you haven’t involved children on the right. The left is for those wanting to do their best to get it right- Lansdown’s 3Cs plus the Lundy Model.

Brilliant to see the first judgment under the UNCRC (Incorporation)(Scotland) Act 2024. The High Court of Justiciary determined the UNCRC Act applies to the Lord Advocate's decision on prosecution of a child and in relation to the conduct of any prosecution. www.scotcourts.gov.uk/media/fryhm1...

🚨The first ever UNCRC Act case has been decided in Scotland! In a significant judgment, the High Court in Edinburgh has accepted our arguments and ruled that the Lord Advocate’s power to prosecute children is within the scope of the UNCRC (Incorporation) (Scotland) Act 2024. 1/5 #UNCRC

Thread. I’m not going to post in depth about the excoriating determination of the FAI into the suicides of Katie Allan & William Lindsay. I’ll be writing about it anon & at length. BUT what runs through it is a sense of the perceived disposability of young people the state is supposed to care for

Delighted to have been made an honorary member of @eurochild-org.bsky.social It’s a huge privilege to work with colleagues and the children at the heart of the work across Eurochild who have and continue to make such an incredible difference. eurochild.org/news/decembe...

Powerful opening to CRC session Chair Prof Ann Skelton: “We are not going to give up just because it’s difficult. We are going to uphold children’s rights to the best of our ability and all of our energy and commitment, which becomes more important to do when children’s rights are under assault.”

It's a good time to reflect on UNICEF's 2024 State of the World's Children report which explores a wide range of issues including technology, climate change, conflict, demographic and geopolitical changes... which will shape future childhoods. www.unicef.org/reports/stat...

“We can’t tackle attendance if we don’t tackle poverty” In a country as wealthy as ours no child or their family should be going without the essentials. No Government wishing to reduce school absence can ignore the role that poverty plays in driving it www.centreforyounglives.org.uk/news-centre/...
