Have you set any measurable outcomes for your weekend? Planned any meaningful activities? Let’s stop using language that gets in the way of people living #GloriouslyOrdinaryLives #LanguageMatters #GloriouslyOrdinaryLanguage www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7T_...

Heading home after a fab weekend in Birmingham with @tricianicoll.bsky.social, planning more of our #GloriouslyOrdinaryLanguage programme. We still have some places left on the next round of the programme starting in May. Find out more at www.gloriouslyordinarylanguage.co.uk

I’ve just seen that today is ‘random acts of kindness day’, which has prompted me to reshare this post from four years ago about the little things that aren’t really little at all… #LanguageMatters #KindnessMatters rewritingsocialcare.blog/2021/02/17/t...

BEDS rewritingsocialcare.blog/2025/02/15/b... I think this might be my favourite @bryonyshannon.bsky.social language blog so far. Best line imho 'We focus our attention on whether people require assistance to get in and out of bed and forget to consider whether people have a reason to get up.'

Another great blog from @bryonyshannon.bsky.social - I never thought of the word "beds" in these terms, but she's right how the language of beds and social care have become intertwined, I even used the term bed bound to describe my mum, oh, & read the end story about Clive at the end! #socialcare

New blog: Beds rewritingsocialcare.blog/2025/02/15/b... #LanguageMatters #RewritingSocialCare

From the #RewritingSocialCare archive🩷 Love rewritingsocialcare.blog/love Joining the dots… letting love (back) in to social care rewritingsocialcare.blog/joining-the-... And equally for healthcare 💟 rewritingsocialcare.blog/equally-for-... Love shows up rewritingsocialcare.blog/love-shows-up

Our new #GloriouslyOrdinaryLanguage website is live 🎉 It includes a video of @tricianicoll.bsky.social & me introducing ourselves & our language programme,& new course dates for Spring 2025. Exciting! And huge thanks to Rosina Sharrock for making it look gorgeous www.gloriouslyordinarylanguage.co.uk

Fantastic opportunity to make a difference @philholmes.bsky.social @bryonyshannon.bsky.social 👇

This is my old post in Donny ⬇️ -here’s a bit about why its ace. www.linkedin.com/posts/bryony...? If you want to put your principles into practice, and work with creativity & autonomy alongside brilliant people with lived experience of social care who will teach you so much - make sure you apply! 👩🏼‍💻🤩

Would you use this language around your kitchen table? Love this brilliant graphic by the fabulous @penmendonca.bsky.social, illustrating the 'five categories of hmmm words' @tricianicoll.bsky.social and I will be discussing in our #GloriouslyOrdinaryLanguage programme. What words would you add?

“Really good & enjoyed it a lot. Feel real motivated to get some positive changes made” “Lots to reflect on-thank you for a fab session” “Put some fire in my belly post Xmas” Just some of the fab feedback from session one of our #GloriouslyOrdinaryLanguage programme today @tricianicoll.bsky.social

Me & @tricianicoll.bsky.social are really looking forward to our first #GloriouslyOrdinaryLanguage session for councils on Friday, with Nottinghamshire, Oxfordshire, North Yorks & Hull Councils. In session 1 we’ll focus on ‘purpose’ & how we communicate about what adult social care is all about.

“And we rush to ‘do something’ – to fix and to solve – overlooking the importance of being present. Being there. Being kind.” Thank you @bryonyshannon.bsky.social great blog as always ❤️

Another excellent blog post. No word irritates me more than “doing”.

This puts how I feel into beautiful words. Being human, curious and simply "with" someone is unfortunately not valued by services pushing for results, progress and a near constant state of activity. We need to slow down and walk alongside the people we are working with 💚

"There’s no KPI for being with. No measure for being alongside. No time for being curious. No space for being human." Essential new year reading from @bryonyshannon.bsky.social rewritingsocialcare.blog/2025/01/04/d...

‘Doing personal care.’ ‘Doing an assessment.’ ‘Doing co-production.’ A new blog post for a new year, reflecting on ‘doing’ and ‘being’ – and getting the balance right. #RewritingSocialCare #LanguageMatters rewritingsocialcare.blog/doing-and-be...

Have updated starter packs today, will thread here in case of interest. Shout if you'd like added to any of them and please share so I can find others Currently I've one on #learningdisability one on #OpenJustice and one of people writing/reporting about #health / #socialcare go.bsky.app/J6k8Rsr

Did this social work starter pack less than a week ago and it's already tripled in size. Lots of lovely people doing interesting things in the social work world. Shout me if you'd like an add!

This all sounds wearingly familiar so here's a shortish thread (1/9) www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

The NHS saves lives but it's #SocialCare that gives many of us a life worth living. Framing care as a problem often misses the possibilities that could be unlocked. Good care is about autonomy, freedom & love & it's at the centre of my life & our TV pilot #Biscuitland www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLsW...

Dehumanising image ✔️ Describes social care as an industry/system ✔️ Mentions day-to-day tasks like washing & dressing ✔️ Refers to people as vulnerable & elderly adults, patients & the most vulnerable adults ✔️ Focuses on the cost of care ✔️ Social care needs a new story… www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Social work starter packs? Here’s three to get going with! go.bsky.app/jPc1mH Some different people to follow across all three. Still room for more of you don’t see yourself on any of them yet ….use reply to suggest accounts, including your own

Heart ZING… love it! 💖⬇️

Hanging out in Birmingham with @tricianicoll.bsky.social We’re excited to have filled our first #GloriouslyOrdinaryLanguage programme for councils. We still have two spaces left on our programme for care and support organisations. More info here: www.gloriouslyordinarylives.co.uk/gloriously-o...

Often our language implies some people are different from the rest of ‘us’. One such term is ‘special’. *New blog post*: Words that make me go hmmm: special #RewritingSocialCare #LanguageMatters #UsNotThemAndUs rewritingsocialcare.blog/2024/11/02/s...

When I published my first blog in 2019 I knew language was important, but so many things I’ve written, spoken about, read & heard since then have convinced me that language matters even more than I thought 5 years ago… #LanguageMatters #RewritingSocialCare rewritingsocialcare.blog/2024/10/12/w...
