I am trying to gain eight new paid subscribers for my newsletter this month. I love writing for you all, and paid subscribers make that work possible. Monthly subscriptions start at $8 per month. Can you support my work?

it needs to be said that while democratic elected officials are trying to get into the USAID building which was shut down by musk, CNN and MSNBC are showing the entirety of a trump press conference.

Senator Andy Kim just went to the USAID building, talked to the security guard there to confirm employees are being barred entry, and then did a press gaggle right there in front to call it out. This is doing something. This is making an effort on messaging. Other Democratic lawmakers: take notes.

i think this should be factored into how states, counties, localities and hospitals respond to these executive orders. "we will investigate you if you teach DEI." okay, with what agents, specifically? with what state capacity?

There's only so much information humans can take in and also only so much we can do as individuals to take constructive action without burning out completely. I want to be available for the long struggle. Like the rest of you, I also have a FT job and other responsibilities.

Just got this tip from an airline pilot

Oh wow he was defrocked for this.

The Republicans and Democrats in Congress who voted for the Laken Riley Act, and endorsed its notions of detention and deportation without the rudiments of due process, facilitated today’s announcement of Trump concentration camps. They’d be wise not to go a single step further down that road.

PRRI finds that Republicans (44%) are more than 2x as likely as independents (21%) and 4x as likely as Democrats (11%) to agree with the idea that the U.S. military should put immigrants who are in the country illegally into internment camps until they can be deported. www.axios.com/2025/01/29/t...

I regret to inform you that trying hard and practicing can make you better at things

8-ish years ago I got strangers to pay off $300k in “lunch debt” so kids who were being punished for owing money could do things like eat, go to prom, and, walk at their own graduation. In the 20 years I’ve engaged in social media, I have never received more hate for anything else I’ve said or done.

The same people wailing about DEI literally can’t spell their own job title.

Stop posting like you don't actually have POWER challenge.

We have to get comfortable with the fact that there is no normal to go back to, and set our sights and work upon shaping a future worth experiencing. This is not new or profound. Others have said it better, earlier, more often. Others have lived it more fully. But I am accepting the call.
