Day 3 (I was informed Sat. was day 3, not 4) of #InverteFest: a seriously fine moth, the aptly-named Ramadasa pavo. I let out a little gasp when @hkmoths.bsky.social mentioned its name when we were checking the traps. Though it flew away shortly after, it soon arrived again.

Day 4/5 of #InverteFest: While not as flamboyant as other Hymenopodidae, the Asian twig mantis (Ambivia undata) is a master of disguise. Its warty, grey body resembles a twig, and it stretches its forearms to blend in. One of HK’s rare mantises, and probably the hardest I’ve screamed for an animal.

Day 4/5 (when the insects were spotted) of #InverteFest: Maybe people aren’t as enthusiastic about the twig mantis as I was. But I know what the Internet loves, the mega-moths. (Attacus atlas, Actias ningpoana, Erebus ephesperis, Lyssa zampa).

A submission for #InverteFest : quick drawing of Rhaetus westwoodi, a one-of-a-kind stag beetle from the eastern Himalayas. It is highly prized in the pet/specimen trade, but very obscure outside of it. Being very rare, little is known about its biology and egg-laying habits.

PeriLumpus 🥹 (Perilampus sp. nugget wasp 🖤) #InverteFest

oh apparently it’s #invertefest today??? hi yes hello inverts are like my entire brand 🫶

Valley Carpenter bees and their fun sexual dimorphism for #invertefest

A Trilobite Beetle (Platerodrilus svetae) from Northern Borneo! They are part of the genus Platerodrilus and the females retain their larval form as adults (larviform females). #Invertefest #trilobitebeetle #insects #pixelart

#InverteFest let's celebrate the creepy-crawlies! 🌺🍃🐞

#InverteFest is here, show me your invertebrate art. (don't forget to use the hashtag)

Day 1 of #InverteFest, still can’t go outside to find some bugs yet🙃 But today I was back sorting some leaf litter samples from Borneo. Not a lot of special stuff, but here’s a nice looking beetle.

Happy #InverteFest ! Here’s the molt of a little tri-spine horseshoe crab. Two days ago at the beach, I was not expecting to find anything special… so we started picking up rubbish instead, when my friend showed me a lunch box w/ a molt stuck on some algae ‼️ She was kind enough to let me keep it (:

The majestic birdwing (Troides), high up in the canopy, wayyyy tooo high up. 🙃

We got a staggering 50 submissions in the past week and I believe we only have fewer than 20 spots left. Don't procrastinate if you want in 👀

Here’s a second, ridiculous litter monster ant (Myrmoteras sp.) from leaf litter samples in a secondary forest in Borneo, this time a much better photo. It has eyes which look like they might cry any time soon…

It's spring in the northern hemisphere, the flowers are blooming, the sun is peeking out and the bugs are starting to emerge. You know what that means, don't you? It's almost time for #InverteFest!!! Share your #invertebrates with us April 24-30. www.metrofieldguide.com/invertefest/

one of the most common beetles in Hong Kong are the tiger beetles. While in earthbanks dwell the gold-spotted tiger beetle, this flightless tiger beetle (Tricondyla pulchripes) is found in the forests. #inverts

this is a record-breaking male of Dynastes tityus (previous record is 69.5mm…) from the beetle store Discovery Beetles. It has been submitted for verification and results might soon be published on the magazine Be-Kuwa. At first glance, it looked more like Dynastes hyllus… #クワカブ #inverts
