No boxing March Hares this afternoon, but this Chinese Water Deer flew across a ploughed field.

Grabbed a couple of hours before dusk and drove the back roads across country to Titchwell. This Red Kite obliged by perching in a roadside tree and calling to it's unseen mate

Wildlife photography can be extremely rewarding. But grat care is needed to avoid damaging disturbance. Here is some excellent advice from practitioners. @sussexwildlife.bsky.social @sussexornitholo.bsky.social @rspb.bsky.social sussexwildlifetrust.org.uk/news/good-pr...

outofedenwalk.nationalgeographic.org/articles/202... Sobering eyewitness account of a visit to South Korea's Saemangeum land claim and the social and environmental devastation it has left in its wake.

Had an early morning drive across country to take my car to the garage in thick fog and a heavy frost. Paused on the way home to grab a few snaps on the phone camera. I'm not sure which of these three I like best.

"Perhaps most worrying for Reeves is not the political objections, but the way her justifications for putting Heathrow expansion back on to the agenda have been treated with widespread scorn."

Spring flexing its muscles in a Norfolk wood, Aconites poking through last autumn's leaf litter on a cold February afternoon.

Today was a good day. Early morning swim followed by a drive around The Wash to @rspbengland.bsky.social Frampton Marsh & Freiston Shore reserves. Brilliant to see the progress on the Freitopia habitat creation project & to look at Frampton. Ended with five minutes at dusk watching a Kingfisher.

Second work visit to the @rspbengland.bsky.social Broads reserves this week. A day of meetings at Strumpshaw Fen and an Al fresco walking and talking one to one at Buckenham Marshes accompanied by the whistling calls of thousands of Wigeon.

Five mile walk this morning around @rspbengland.bsky.social Titchwell Marsh and Thornham Point. Highlight was finding a flock of 33 Snow Buntings feeding on the strandline out at the Point. #NorfolkBirds

Work took me out east to Norwich, where I had a meeting with the NorfolkWildlife Trust in the lovely Norwich Cathedral refectory. Thought this gateway made a nice picture. Then, an afternoon spent with @rspbengland.bsky.social Strumpshaw Fen staff and volunteers at NWT Sweet Briar Marshes reserve.

Today, the Office for Environmental Protection (OEP) has released its 2024 progress report on England’s natural environment. 🏞️ The verdict? Government is still “largely off track” on meeting environmental targets. Some key takeaways 👇🧵 www.theoep.org.uk/report/gover...

It's grey and horrible outside now, but first thing this morning before the clouds rolled in the light was quite wonderful as it streamed through the trees in Wild Ken Hill Woods.

Wonderful light at @rspbengland.bsky.social Titchwell Marsh this afternoon. Watching these Wigeon they certainly seemed to be sensing that despite the cold early Spring is on the horizon. #NorfolkBirds

A winter afternoon with the sun starting to drop in the sky over the Norfolk Broads. The quiet was broken here by a couple of bickering Otters in the reedy fringe of the River Yare.

Whilst West Norfolk may have escaped the snow and ice, today was a wet and grey day, no1 son's favourite conditions for playing Rugby. So I got to play sports photograher. Unfortunately, his team West Norfolk Rugby Club boys under 16s lost their cup match against North Walsham.

A top day out walking, talking and birding with Ian Rowlands 20,000 steps and some great birds enjoyed including Shorelarks, displaying Red Breasted Mergansers, a lovely biscuit coloured Glaucous Gull and to end the day a Pallid Harrier coming into roost.

Waxing crescent moon with Venus over Snettisham village this evening.

Popped down to King's Lynn to watch a bit of Stock Car racing. Very noisy and smelly with, for the uninitiated, a surprising amount of mud flung in the air and over the spectators. Quite liked this panned shot, just a shame I couldn't take it without the fence in the way.

Yesterday, a 15 km stomp in the gloom around Weybourne/Kelling area with Dave Tipling, quiet birdwise, but did find this glowing fungus, which I think is Golden Ear / Witches Butter ? Https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/67584-Tremella-aurantia

A two walks around the @wildkenhill.bsky.social Woods sort of a Boxing Day, mild, still, and grey all day. An early dusk as the low cloud blocked out what little sunlight there was.

Family walk from Old Hunstanton to Holme, I managed to peel away for a few minutes to watch the flock of half a dozen Shorelarks that are spending the winter here.

Afternoon walk at RSPB Titchwell Marsh started with the pleasant winter sun adding colour to the landscape, then when the cloud covered all of the sky, the view became monochrome. Nice to have this Marsh Harrier fly over the saltings close to the path. @rspb.bsky.social @rspbengland.bsky.social

Nice mixed flock of Cattle and Little Egrets in a flooded field between Thornham and Holme this morning.

It was a good game to take my boys to watch today. @leicestertigers.bsky.social won 56:17, the Ref got knocked over in front of us, burgers were eaten, and no1 son had his first taste of Guinness. He liked it, so he must be a proper Rugby player!

It was good to grab an hour under a rare blue sky at Old Hunstanton this morning. Even better was to see the Glaucous Gull that has been feeding on a seal carcass there. Thanks to @debalmer.bsky.social and Dave Nurney for helping me get on the bird.

Today, I took a trip east along the coast to Cley to meet 1 of my team members for a walking & talking one to one. Always good to get away from the laptop screen, meet people in 3 dimensions & have a longer, more relaxed conversation. A grey old day, though, with not even a hint of blue in the sky
