As of 4/11/25, TX, NM, OK and KS report combined 643 measles cases. CDC reports 712 confirmed cases nationally. Allen County, IN reports six cases, likely connected to the outbreak in OH that is now at least 25 cases. OH government hasn't been good about regularly publishing updates on new cases.

Victim complex

I’m guessing if Trump doesn’t back down soon on trade war w/ China, China will cut off or sharply restrict supply of rare earth metals to U.S. Also guessing washing will occur w/ China selling rare earths to producer nations Myanmar and Australia to sell on to U.S. at hefty profits at each step.

Per BBC, trade between U.S. and China last year was $585 billion. Although China had a $295B trade surplus, China still bought $145B from the U.S. The US government is unlikely to make up all of that $145B annual amount by, for example, giving US farmers new subsidies.

If the universities (and everyone else) don’t band together, Trump will continue to pick them off one at a time.

Two lessons of Trump: Trump never faces any real consequences (except, thankfully, inevitable death), and those who throw their lot in with Trump ultimately end up under the bus.

As of 4/8/2025, 598 measles cases reported across Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas and Colorado.

Another bad day for democracy and the rule of law thanks to the Supreme Court. Fundamental constitutional rights, including those protecting noncitizens in the U.S., only exist to the extent courts enforce them and don’t put up roadblocks to asserting those rights.
