I felt humbled when, on 30th March, 1967, The Beatles celebrated my eighth birthday by shooting the Sgt. Pepper cover at Michael Cooper’s Chelsea Manor Studios on Flood Street, just off The King's Road. The collage, designed by Peter Blake and wife Jann Haworth, had taken eight days to assemble.

Today in 1968, Paul and Jane give a press conference at London’s Heathrow Airport after returning from meditation studies under Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in Rishikesh. Officially, Paul had to oversee Apple while Jane had to act. But he’d never intended to stay longer and she didn’t like meditating.

On this date in 1963, more than seven months after becoming a Beatle, Ringo finally sorted out his bad-hair situation. Dezo Hoffman was at Horne Brothers' barber shop on Lord Street in Liverpool to photograph Jim Cannon styling that wild thatch into what the press would call a mop-top.

1961 & 2025. The 'V for victory' sign with the palm facing out, popularized by Winston Churchill during World War II, evolved into a symbol of peace during the second half of the 1960s.

Paul and Linda married at Central London's Marylebone Register Office today in 1969... after he bought her £12 wedding ring The Night Before, just as the jewellery shop was about to close. Mike McCartney was best man and Mal Evans was a witness, but none of the other Beatles were present.

Keep your guard up and jab... Paul (left) and brother Mike with mother Mary, taken outside the family home at 72 Western Avenue in Speke by next door neighbour Barrie Jones. The McCartneys had moved there in 1947, shortly after Paul's fifth birthday.

The word was out on this date in 1964: "the envy of every Beatle fan in Britain" who'd "won a part in their first film 'Beatlemania'" - as it was called before taking its title from a Ringo malapropism.

Beautiful Knight. Paul became a Sir on this date in 1997, over three decades after receiving his MBE. Linda, battling cancer, wasn't there. In 2017, he would be appointed to the Order of the Companions of Honour (CH) for his services to music.
