do people not realize that the past four decades of US policing legislation PR and practice have made the allegation that someone is a “gang member” entirely subject to the whims of the state

Man if you stopped watching cable news years ago and try to watch five minutes in a row you will feel like you’re in the black lodge or some shit no thank you what are people doing to themselves every single day with this stuff

"'Don't give a white supremacist murder gang half the city's budget to spend on military gear' is a terrible slogan" they scolded.

Not for nothing, but maybe the question shouldn't be "why have young men moved to the right?" and instead ask why a not-insignificant subset haven't.

my general opinion is that people should cut the loser shit out.

One election isn't going to fix what's wrong with the United States, the rotten substructure of civic engagement, oligarchic power, and spoiled resentment that's gotten us to this place. Victory over Trump and MAGA is going to require a wholesale remaking of American political culture and society.

the republican party must be outlawed from existing in the united states. we cannot live in a civil society with people as inhumanly evil as this

everybody going to bed not me fuck bed it is my enemy

I really need to stress this point, but if they do immense damage to SSA, that is NOT a talking point for voting. The only logical course of action at that point is the really bad option.

The left is forever critiqued for two things: remembering things and being correct too soon

STEPHEN A SMITH: Skip I want to ADDRESS this issue [BAYLESS nods] STEPHEN A: I am on the record, MULTIPLE TIMES, as opposing Robespierre and the Reign of Terror BAYLESS: Of course STEPHEN A: HOWEVER,

Really hope ICE doesn't start doing widespread no knock flashbangs thru the window battering rammed doors down tear gas deployed drones & K9s sent in nighttime raids to arrest & disappear people & anyone who tries to stop em on the thinnest legal pretext, like local cops everywhere do all the time

Marx literally worked as a war correspondent for the US Civil War. He specifically wrotethat the proletariat in Europe saw the US civil war as a war for the right to free labor versus slavery. The English working class viewed European powers supporting the Confederacy as a theat to themselves!

Like the big thing is you get into situations where fascist cops fash out, people take measures to defend themselves and then other people start getting paranoid and deciding that the folks doing entirely reasonable self defence in response to threats of violence get painted as "agent provocateurs".

Had that post been, say, half the length it was - total CYA, probably no problem. The way it was written is one step above a dogwhistle.

It's worth noting that under this statement even the non-violence wing of the civil rights movement — which planned its actions for maximum disruption, intentionally defied police and violated laws — would be disavowed. This isn't even non-violence it's just obedience.

Lots of people who have no experience protesting dunking on this without understanding, so let me explain: Pre-emptively denouncing "political violence" (when no one has committed any) and, worse, denouncing "disruption", is a red flag that someone's going to lead you into a kettle

many things can be true: - it is good to see masses of people activated - this is a good organizing opportunity for those of us who are not liberal organizations that are working hand in hand with cops - you should not trust a liberal organization that is working hand in hand with cops

I'm still allowed to hate NATO and make fun of their dumb marks. You can't take that away from me.

It's not a matter of cringe, it's a matter of seeing pro cop signs at a supposedly anti fascist protest

OK we've finally found how you can't be romantic about baseball

It's such a pity that a growth-at-all-costs bubble is really driving "AI" adoption because improvements to relatively small things like completion for an IDE or how one can interact with large data sets is awesome, but since those won't get Altman a yacht the world must burn, instead.

i dislike accusations of luddism thrown at AI critics because i clearly like technology a lot! i use ~4 different computers regularly, i adore my 3D printer, i don't even brew coffee without involving a microprocessor. but all those technologies have proven themselves useful or at least entertaining
