The US State Department has canceled the grants that provide much of the support for the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa. 90% of those funds are spent in the US, & the program is top-notch, hosting 3 future Nobel laureates. @uiiwp.bsky.social now.uiowa.edu/news/2025/03...

Now through March 14, our pandemic releases are discounted! Details below. #booksky #sale #amreading

Cover reveal! COMMON DISASTER, #poet physician #M.CynthiaCheung's powerful debut navigating grief, resilience, and the weight of memory -- confronting COVID-19, war, erasure, and extinction. Coming November 2025.

Somehow this book is four years old today. Much gratitude to @cbeditions.bsky.social 🙏🏻 “Part memoir, part philosophy, part pragmatic advice for writers, [these essays] read like a master class in surviving through art.” – Los Angeles Times www.cbeditions.com/obrien4.html

This is fascism.

In 3 days, the number of measles cases in a highly unvaccinated area of Texas has doubled. There are now 48 cases, all of whom are unvaccinated, and 13 of whom have been hospitalized so far, for a hospitalization rate of 27%. This is huge figure in epidemiology. This outbreak will keep spreading.

Looking forward to writing a play (overnight) for @24hourplays.bsky.social — in support of LA wildfire relief playbill.com/article/mary...

"Kennedy had mangled a malign belief and told it to me as if it were irrefutably proven. It was not only dangerously wrong—it was perhaps the cruelest thing anyone had ever said to me." www.esquire.com/news-politic...

Delighted that one of the first plays I wrote — about an amateur theatre in Cork producing (and arguing comedically about) “an Irish play” that happens to be written by an American — will be produced in April by an amateur theatre in Clonmel in Tipperary 🇮🇪 clonmeltheatreguild.com

Attention poets! Time is running out on our January submissions window. For details about how to send your work for consideration, visit www.acre-books.com. 📚🖊️✉️

Here’s a Bo’sun Smythe from one of the play’s first productions

Every summer since cancer I write an essay about playwriting. Last year I wrote my eighth : ‘40 Questions About a Political Play’; I’m thrilled that it will be published as a pamphlet by @calquepress.bsky.social in Cambridge this spring. Many thanks to James Womack & @maudmarianw.bsky.social

Unspeakably excited to put this play on next week!

I’m directing the first of these one-act plays at the next Brighton Little Theatre double bill, opening next Tuesday! I have never laughed so much in rehearsal in my life. Absolute absurdist joy. Come and see! https://www.brightonlittletheatre.com/votcba

In the new issue of Esquire you will find a stunning piece from poet, playwright, and memoirist Dan O’Brien (@bydanobrien.bsky.social) Dear Family” continues to excavate O’Brien’s family history with the empathy and grace that he displays in all of his work.
