My mom was born in the town of Nam Định, Northern Vietnam in 1945, the year WW2 ended. It’s at the mouth of the Red River delta where it meets the Gulf of Tonkin. Names for the country at that time included Annam, Tonkin and Indochina.

Instead of high school my dad went to WW2. He served 2 years in the Army & 2 years in the Navy, then entered college in Fargo, ND at 20. He got a degree in civil engineering, played football, joined a Catholic & Agricultural fraternity, and a club called the Sons of Malta. This is their salute.
