Dense, pea-super, fog in the Irish Midlands made our minds up, and journeyed over to Partry Mountains, in County Mayo. The view was taken over Cross River on Derrinkee Townland.

Clough Oughter Castle was built on a man-made island during the latter part of the 12th century. In 1649, Oliver Cromwell besieged the castle, eventually blowing a whole in one side with canon fire.

I have been photographing 'The Reek', commonly known and Croagh Patrick, in Ireland. Each year the faithful make a pilgrimage to the top where, it is believed, St Patrick spent 40 days and 40 nights. Over the centuries, a groove has been worn along the route by pilgrims and sightseers alike.

At the edge of Ireland. This is 350 million years in one picture. Situated 80 meters from the Irish shore is an impressive sea stack known as Dun Briste or the 'Broken Fort. It is an astonishing formation in the sense that it allows you to see layer upon layer of multicolored rock strata.

Working on a new book . . . This image was taken 120 metres above an Irish peat bog. I’m intrigued by the patterns that were formed during the process of extraction. This was banned 3 years ago. Ireland has over 8% of the world’s blanket bog, which is crucial to the absorption of CO2.
