When reading Lord of the Rings, you really see how Tolkien incorporated his experience in war (He fought at the the Battle of the Somme) and, I'm sure, PTSD into the narrative. Anyone suffering from PTSD understands the desire to go to place like the Undying Lands that will heal their pain. #tolkien

It was an interesting choice to change "The Edge of Night" song for the Lord of the Rings. In Return of the King it's mournful and sad, as Pippin laments the loss of life in Faramir's doomed charge. In the books, it's in Fellowship, and it's a joyous song celebrating the thrill of adventure.

Several years ago, my sister went down to Mississippi to visit our extended family. Our great-aunt, who was about 95 years old, gave her a tour of the family cemetery (as one does.) She had taken her past the graves of various deceased relatives when she pointed at a particular gravestone.

Question for LOTR fans (and spoiler alert): Did Bilbo deserve entry to the Undying Lands? I get that he was a Ringbearer, but he mostly used the Ring for his own benefit and to help his friends. His greatest contribution to its destruction was passing it to Frodo.
