How it feels trying to force myself to become a “morning workout” person m.youtube.com/watch?v=SgC2...

As someone who got into research by way of an miRNA lab, can confirm this is accurate.

Such a cool paper!! #PancSky

Now that the NYT has forced me to learn what a “butty” is, I have some serious questions. For starters: why?

Leading the pack: Glucokinase reinforces Ca2+-waves #PancSky #BetaCellSky elifesciences.org/articles/103...

✨Congrats ✨ to the winners of 🔬 2025 #CUAnschutzResearchAwards from the DOP! Richard Benninger, PhD: Research Mentor Award | Kelly Sullivan, PhD + Angela Rachubinski, PhD – Research Collaboration Team Award: @crnicinstitute.bsky.social @cumedicalschool.bsky.social @cuanschutz.bsky.social

“Training for a marathon is so much fun,” I say to myself while my toenails start falling off and I ice my knee every single day. “I am having such a great time,” I say, while puking in a King Sooper’s parking lot.

“This is a blatant attempt to gut the universities and health research that have saved so many lives and given economic opportunity to so many people.” @iwashyna.bsky.social on impact of new NIh order to cut research indirect costs. www.statnews.com/2025/02/07/n...

Happy birthday, little one. Life is so much better with your endless joy, constant snuggles, and daily bodyslams. Here’s to another year filled with lots of cheese, long walks, and amazing sunsets together 🖤🤍🤎

“I’m a strong independent woman, and I don’t even need thumbs” I mutter to myself repeatedly, while asking my husband to tie my shoes for me this morning 🤦🏽‍♀️

I’m giving a BDC Research In Progress talk on Monday! Come hang out and learn about the importance of gap junction coupling in pancreatic delta cells! 🥳🧫🔬

I have been waiting 6 months for this PLEASE NOBODY TALK TO ME OR INTERRUPT ME FOR THE NEXT 79 MINUTES THANK YOU.

Trying to bring Mel Giedroyc energy into this year (no matter what 2025 may throw at me 😅). youtu.be/RAVMRqWVFnM

I tried to make a feed for news and discussions on all things pancreas biology (exocrine and endocrine!). You can post with the hashtags #PancSky #BetaCellSky #EndocrineSky . Let me know if it is useful and how to modify to make it better! bsky.app/profile/did:...

Uncertain what 2-weeks-ago me was thinking or why I thought I would have the physical, mental, or emotional capacity to handle an entire day of multiple experiments on the first full day back in the lab, but 2024 me is really setting 2025 me up for failure.

In 2024, we skied in Switzerland and danced in Canada. I competed my first 70.3 Ironman, joined my thesis lab and presented my research in Spain. I spent as much time as possible in the mountains, and was surrounded by the best humans every step of the way 🥰 Here’s to an amazing 2025!

“I’m really looking forward to taking some time off over the holidays”, I said, right before a 10 day roadtrip that included 5 days with my in-laws, driving through 7 states, and visiting 3 national parks. “It will be nice to relax”, I said (🤦🏽‍♀️).

Excited to share this new study from the Bjørnstad lab now published in @jclinical-invest.bsky.social - this project was a HUGE collective undertaking with a lot of amazing collaborators - so excited this paper is finally out!

Things K and I have looked up/learned so far on this cross country road trip: • The origin of the name “Grand Tetons” (very funny) • The geopolitical history of Macau (very interesting) • The specifics of Nevada indoor smoking laws

Traveling for the holidays with our dog and trying to make sure we don’t forget her food, toys, treats, stuffed animals, AND making sure she goes for a walk and pees before we get in the car feels like I’m going to lose my mind, so I have no idea how people do this with real children 😅

Looking forward to journal club tomorrow where we will discuss this fantastic paper from Zong Wei's lab describing how diet-induced obesity impacts enhancer-associated histone modifications in islets www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Celebrating the end of the year in our lab, and feeling beyond grateful every single day I get to come to work with these humans, do exciting science, celebrate accomplishments, set new goals, and learn new things. Looking forward to all that 2025 holds in store!

Pros of getting our dog an advent calendar this year: She gets a little treat every day, she gets very excited about said treat Cons: She has no idea that this is only a once/day event and goes and sits next to her calendar multiple times a day and cries because she wants more treats

This is Enzo. He will carry on, but he will not be enthusiastic about it. 12/10

When you do an experiment for the first time and you get unexpected (albeit interesting and possibly promising) results: Could be a fluke or an accident or maybe I did something wrong?? When you repeat the experiment and get the same results a second time:

Howdy Bluesky! My name’s Carissa, I’m a 2nd Year PhD student at CU Anschutz. I’m researching islet biology and loving every second of it! When I’m not in lab, I’m probably hiking or snowboarding in the mountains, or hanging out with my dog 🏔️🏂🐶 Looking forward to connecting!
