Day Two, “the big one” (aka I get the whole day this time). At 2k. The first thousand were before breakfast, which made me feel invincible. The second thousand were… a lot harder. Currently resting and making designs on the hot tub.

Brain-work is also part of writing. Walking the dog while you let yourself mull plot points, chatting out character notions with someone, doodling little plot webs or other diagrams—all of that is writing too, not just "I got X words on the page today."

Spending today through Sunday making a concerted push on the new book. I’m 1.6k in for the day, which is my usual weekday goal this time around.

Answering some questions: the series covers the first novella "All Systems Red," I'm a consulting producer, and we've been working on it since 2021. (So it seems fast from the timing of the announcements but it has actually taken a million years in me-time.)

Please leave a comment supporting trans people's right to accurate documentation. Trans people have been able to get passports that match their gender literally for decades.

Woooot - after so many months of waiting, Wooing the Witch Queen is out in North America today!!!!! Please tag me in all your photos - I looooove seeing it in the wild. ❤️ And you can find all of the buy-links here: www.stephanieburgis.com/books/wooing-the-witch-queen #romancelandia

16k into the new book. It’s very fun but also very scary to work on, and conditions aren’t great, but oh well. It won’t get done if I don’t do it. (who likes weird vampires?)

💀ROTTAGECORE💀 I curated this list with horror fans in mind who enjoy medical experiments on humans, body horror, grave digging, anatomy, gruesome descriptions of cadavers, slightly mad scientists, people in pies, and echoes of Frankenstein...enjoy! List in the alt text Horror Books 🩸📚

the world is terrifying but I made some new socks

you’re doing yourself a disservice if you don’t read this. a hospital gothic, a woman agrees to participate in an experimental trial in the hopes of it helping her chronic illness. yet as her immune system is destroyed, she becomes aware of sinister may lurk within the hospital.

I will admit on this, Valentine's Day, that I did include a "would you still love me if I was a worm?" reference in this. ❤️🪱

So delighted and shocked that The Luminous Dead is a summer scares book! It really is the book that won’t quit. 🥹🥰

They’ve changed it to LGB without the TQ, as if you can talk about Stonewall without Marsha P Johnson

everyone wants an answer so good that it gives them permission to stop learning

spouse just sent me this with “if I have to eat ONE MORE FUCKED UP EGG I will TEAR THIS BOX APART” (gwendoline is my fancast for Jane Lawrence, you see)

Hugo nominations are open and I have only two requests: 1. Commit to picking 2 non-Tordotcom novellas for your ballot 2. For the love of all that is holy in this world, do not nominate adult/crossovers or middle grade books for the Lodestar - officially categorized YA only!

oh shit you all need these. you really do.

The Oblivion Bride is a departure from the typical work of @caitlinstarling.com, but as someone intimately familiar with loss, this book spoke to me on a deep level. It’s a soft, tender story filled equally with heartbreak and hope, as well as Starling’s signature prose. 5/5 — I loved it 🖤

this remains super super cool (also there are/will be full size skeins!)

The Starving Saints miniskeins are in the shop! DM or email me proof of preorder for the book and I’ll send back a 10% off discount code good for any The Starving Saints colorway! #HandDyedYarn #MiniSkeins #IndieDyer #TheStarvingSaints merryandmae.etsy.com/listing/1870...

Fuck this very much. Mature labels like this is what they do in Russia to queer books. YA books already have age ranges inside or on the back of books. Introducing this kind of labeling in the age of censorship we're in is a very specific, very gross choice and it says a lot about the publishers.
