We just had a new falcon visiting the Campanile for 15 minutes or so. Fingers crossed it will continue to hang out and get to know the area! Based on head, bill shape, and skin and feather coloration, it appears to be a new bird. #peregrinefalcon #urbanwildlife #cal #berkeley #gobears

As avian flu continues to kill birds worldwide, @calfalcons.bsky.social says the disease "is hitting peregrines very hard right now,” and is likely why UC Berkeley’s resident falcon, Annie, and her mate, Archie, haven’t been seen on campus in nearly two months. news.berkeley.edu/2025/02/24/u...

Hi everyone, All three cameras are back in operation, including the upgraded South/West camera. We also wanted to take a moment to talk about how quiet things have been on this site and also at the Campanile. Neither Annie nor Archie has been seen at the Campanile since early January.

Winter season affords us an opportunity to perform maintenance and upgrades. This year, we upgraded our south/west camera! It should provide sharper images and fix some focus issues that we have had. Huge thank you to Peter Sharpe at the Institute for Wildlife Studies for lending his expertise!

At the Campanile…

Thread: Annie has never successfully hatched all four eggs in any year we've monitored her. There's always been an egg that didn't make it. Nox was the exception to that: a tiny little bundle of fluff that hatched out of his egg as hundreds of people watched live on BAMPFA's big screen

We are deeply saddened to receive the news from UC Davis that Nox passed away last night. They will be performing a post-mortem to determine the cause of death, which is still unknown. We will be posting an in memoriam a little later today when we have time to honor Nox properly.

Nox is currently in stable condition following a blood transfusion. More details here: news.berkeley.edu/2024/10/23/n...

Hi all, Nox is currently under care for an unknown ailment. Veterinarians are working hard to determine what is affecting him and how to best treat him. Please be patient as we wait for more details.

Very quick note: please do not call California Raptor Center or other organizations for updates on Nox. We will update you on his status when we have more information.

Nox ended up on the ground this afternoon and has been recovered by Bay Raptor Rescue. There do not appear to be any major injuries in an initial examination. We’re not sure what happened, but he will be getting a healthy portion of quail tonight and a thorough examination tomorrow.

Nox has completed his rehabilitation and has been released (with a fancy new backpack!). With his new GPS tag, we'll be able to peak into one of the big mystery of: where juvenile birds go after they leave their parents' territories. More details here: news.berkeley.edu/2024/10/21/n...

A drone was observed flying above the Campanile today. Annie remained in the nest incubating the eggs, but Archie flew out to investigate and defend the site. Thankfully, Archie returned unharmed. (Image credit: Bridget Ahern, moon_rabbit_rising on Instagram)

The C.F.M. Committee is happy to announce 2024's March Meme Madness! Give us your best falcon memes and we'll create a bracket to determine the best meme of the year! Some meme templates can be found here: bit.ly/Falcon_Memes But feel free to use your favorite images.

And then there were two! 2nd egg laid around 3:35am, a little ahead of schedule!

We have our first egg of the year! Based on previous years, we’re looking at an expected hatch date of 4/23

It's 7pm. Do you know where your falcon is? Looks like Annie may be spending the night in the nest box for the first time this year. Pretty good sign that eggs are coming soon!
