Really loved Veni, Vedi, Veci at @glasgowfilmfest.bsky.social Following in the style of White Lotus or Triangle of Sadness, it's eat the rich satire with lots of comic moments and some striking visuals. venividivici.film/en/thefilm/

Also how nice is it to cycle past the Citz at the moment, as more of exterior lights are turning on. Love seeing the red glow of Citizens Theatre loom ahead of me on the cycle path.

Really enjoyed Your Sexts Are Shit by Rachel Mars, a moving if disarming comparison of the eloquent but quite filthy love letters of people from history against blunt contemporary texts. Simple but smart and engaging. @trontheatre.bsky.social www.tron.co.uk/shows/your-s...

Scottish theatre folk, who are the very new directors I should be aware of? I mean very recent entrants to the industry, with or without formal training, at the stage where they've done some fringe/grassroots-level work but probably haven't yet had work with RFO/MYF orgs. Shares appreciated.

I liked The Vegetarian by Han Kang but it was quite tough going eh.

I really loved Sing Sing. Not the most original story but really beautifully told with poise and nuance, and fantastic performances.

⏰ Less than two weeks left to apply! We’re hiring two full-time roles: Programme Officer (£31,000) – Help drive our annual commissions and micro commissions forward. Programme Administrator (£29,206) – Keep our commissions running smoothly. 🔗 Apply by Monday 10 March: bit.ly/3HS3UaY

Every year thousands of workers come from overseas to pick fruit and veg on UK farms. But an organisation who supports them says they’re not being paid for all the hours they work - and payslips they shared with me show the same. My story in tomorrow’s Observer www.theguardian.com/global-devel...

Been reading about notorious dictator President Mobutu from Democratic Republic of the Congo, and the parallels to Trump are striking. "Mobutu demanded absolute personal allegiance in return for the opportunity to accumulate wealth"

Well I for one am looking forward to all the Bond / LOTR crossover universe films we can expect now: Bond v Gandalf would be a hoot eh.

Difficult but important read on the current context in Scotland for disabled people. It firmly sets out the scale of the challenge to ensure the realisation of disabled peoples human rights in Scotland.

We’re putting feelers out for anyone that might want to be part of a fringe theatre streaming service we’re toying with the idea of. If you have good quality footage of a performance, that you have all the rights to, and you want people to see it again, then get in touch :) There will be royalties!

The National Theatre has called for new funding schemes to transform performing arts. Their new report concludes that business models of non-profit organisations in the arts and culture sector are ‘no longer working’. https://buff.ly/3WCMTbk #FreelancersMakeTheatreWork

Producers - Last few days to apply for this open call out ✨

Really pleased to see lots of organisations working with disabled folk joining the Multi Year Funding fold.

Good luck today folks, fingers and toes crossed for you. 🤞

Went to Scottish Ballet's relaxed performance of The Nutcracker yesterday, and this wee girl near me was asking some very legitimate questions. - Why aren't they using real snow? - Why is she spinning around? - Where is the nutcracker?

I used to use January to catch up with pals I hadn't managed to see over Xmas, but now most of my spare time is spent catching up with The Traitors!

I'm really fucking angry about this. It's not even an anti tech thing or whatever. It's just like, those copyright laws are a fundamental cornerstone of our most basic professional rights. What the fuck are you playing at. Fuck you

Farewell Bradford, I had a delightful time, very chilly but also very charming. Would like to return for a longer trip at some point. Maybe even to catch some more of the #bradford2025 events.

A 67 year old amputee and wheelchair user lived with his son who had cerebral palsy. They were killed in the Eaton fire while waiting for an ambulance that never arrived. Many disabled people can not evacuate on their own. They need to be included in evacuation plans (yet almost never are)

Delighted to be in snowy Bradford for the Access Summit, ahead of the #bradford2025 opening celebrations this evening.

'Labour can’t afford not to invest in the arts because the returns – not just to the economy but to the wider health and well-being of the nation and gross national happiness – are so abundantly clear.' - Lyn Gardner in @TheStage

Diving back into the belly of the beast today. Aka the office 😫

i feel like i’m going insane every time i read about UBI or the 4 day work week cus everyone with authority on the topic agrees that literally everyone even the capital owners benefit from these systems and we just don’t do it because we live in a global oligarchy and an old men don’t like it

Start the new year by checking out our New Writing Festival at Rich Mix on 25 & 26 Jan. This event celebrates creativity & showcases the vital contributions of Deaf, Disabled, and neurodivergent playwrights. Join us for the day or the whole weekend. Tickets from £8. shorturl.at/tsqSE

Rewatched Severance over Xmas, and so glad I did, I'd forgotten so much of what happens and it's such a great, knotty plot. Can't wait for S2 now! So beautifully shot too. Outstanding television.

Just locked myself into my cousin's store room by fully closing a door which doesn't have a door handle. Christmas is the best season for odd sleeping arrangements.

Over in the other place, the billionaire owner is threatening to fund ‘moderate’ (rightwing) candidates in heavily Democratic districts too. This is what oligarchy looks like. It’s the biggest threat to democracy today. Not ‘cancel culture.’ Not trans kids. Not college protesters. Oligarchy.

Here's the truth: Elon Musk doesn't want any restrictions on his investments in China, and that's why we're on the brink of a government shutdown. This is the first scandal of Trump's second term, and it'll look like a lot of the others: putting personal financial interests above the country's.

Thank goodness! What a horrible time those artists must have been having since SH's accounts were frozen.

This week the Guardian's owner, the Scott Trust, gifted the 233-year-old Observer to Tortoise Media. This isn't just a dark day for journalism, it's a sign. Meet the team. This is Putin giving Tortoise's energy advisory board member an 'Order of Friendship' medal in 2017. 1/

I love this. Think about access as part of a show’s dramaturgy to move away from ableist norms

Just saw a man in a maga cap in Govanhill 😬

Made my flat mate dress the same as me for my birthday party.

I’m excited by my coaching programme next year. It’s low cost, it’s needed, it’s tested. But how do I get the word out? What newsletters and mailing lists do you read? Help a woman out. www.lilyeinhorn.com/re-inspire

If we sacked off Christmas and rebranded December as the Easy Peeler Season, I think I'd be okay with that.

I hope they are putting on an audio described performance for him. www.theguardian.com/music/2024/d...

This feels like the key part of the Greg Wallace story. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

I'm really into this new programme from @trontheatre.bsky.social Lots of new writing, and some classics. Yes I'm counting Every Brilliant Thing as a (contemporary) classic. Will be heading along to a lot of it I reckon.
