I love this journal - it's a treasure trove of great datasets. AND another cool thing is OPEN COMMENT PERIODS ON PREPRINTS! Along with assigned reviewers, members of the science community can also comment on the preprint to help improve the manuscript. Also OLIGOTREND sounds amazing

"OLIGOTREND, towards a global database of multi-decadal #chlorophyll-a and #waterquality timeseries for #rivers, #lakes and #estuaries". 🧪 Preprint open for discussion in Earth System Science Data until end of March: essd.copernicus.org/preprints/es...

#carbon biogeochemistry & #climate scientists: a paper from 2022 that was retracted for MANY reasons has found a new home & is more extreme than the prior version. Time for experts to speak out & correct the peer-reviewed record on this topic (again). ascelibrary.org/doi/10.1061/... 🧪🌎💧

Processing some @esaearth.esa.int #Sentinel2 scenes taken over the Gambia River... Kilometers of mangroves on either side of the river flowing through the savannah make for wonderful images to work with!

🧪⚒️I have to admit, as a scientist it's bleak. So to add a bit of glimmer to your week- tune into this month's #WARR talks! Thurs 2/20, 11 AM ET Two excellent #WomenInSTEM share their thoughts on deciphering the complex relationships between climate, society & water 🔗 www.cee.psu.edu/events/women...

Join us at SEFS14 in Bolu, Turkey (20-25 July 2025) for SS-09: Greenhouse gas exchanges & biogeochemical processes in inland & coastal waters, co-organized by @restore4cs.bsky.social 📝 Abstract submission until 15 March 🔗 Submit here: www.sefs14.com #SEFS14 #ClimateResilience #GHG #Biogeochemistry

Hydrology Paper of the Day @caminaudo.bsky.social on measuring the optical properties of a water column in Lake Geneva: processing algorithms and estimates of physical quantities; validation using remote sensing; and understanding linkages between phytoplankton light reactions and chlorophyll-a.

ASLO comments on the recent executive orders in the United States. Read our full statement here: www.aslo.org/aslo-comment...

How can we build better predictive models? And what can AI tell us about complex ecosystem mechanisms? I’m hiring a PhD student to work with me on applying data-driven discovery methods on high-frequency lake data to begin September 2025. Application is due on May 4.

Using data from the Thetis profiler in Lake Geneva, Gupana et al. demonstrate how disentangling quenching mechanisms improves the relationship between sun-induced fluorescence with chlorophyll-a concentration estimates, with implications for remotely sensed retrievals. A robust trend analysis of river #waterquality variables and flow time series all over #Australia delivered very interesting results, reflecting the long-term and large-scale effects of land use, water management and severe drought on river water quality. Read whole story: doi.org/10.1038/s432...

I've posted a new video on YouTube that gives a brief overview of the new conditional_values() function in my gratia #RStats 📦 I plan to do more of these videos over the next few weeks & months. Make sure you're subscribed if you want to be notified as they get posted. youtu.be/iKG0aHWpTAo

My first post on bsky to announce my first solo author paper is out in @aslo.org L&O Letters. doi.org/10.1002/lol2... Thanks to lots of amazing conversations with collaborators and a call out on that other social media to gather info on lakes, rivers, streams, wetlands, etc with calcium carbonate.

A new study led by @umaine.bsky.social Climate Change Institute Associate Director, Dr. Jasmine Saros, shows significant rapid changes to Greenland lakes 🧪https://www.pnas.org/doi/full/10.1073/pnas.2413855122?

The use of water optical properties to unveil important ecological processes in inland waters and some of my work are highlighted in the most recent post by @irbio-ub.bsky.social ⤵️🧪

🚨 Deadline for abstract submission is tomorrow! #EGU25

Well done humanity. For it is us who have caused this rapid warming of the planet, and the devastating consequences for people and ecosystems that are so visible today and every day. theconversation.com/my-new-dark-...

Do you do #remotesensing of aquatic environments, but you want aquatic surface reflectance data. Well, we processed the entire #Sentinel2 record for #AQUATIC surface reflectance in the Contiguous US. You can now access those data from Amazon Web Services for FREE! registry.opendata.aws/usgs_aqr/

Happy to get this week’s post out. Don’t forget non-forest carbon-rich ecosystems! Non-forest carbon-rich ecosystems need to be conserved and restored for biodiversity and climate benefits. Check it out (and subscribe). I’d love to get your thoughts. predirections.substack.com/p/dont-forge...

❗One week away before Abstract submission deadline for #EGU25. ➡️Consider session HS10.5 where we invite all contributions aiming at bridging limnology and hydrology together to better connect lakes and reservoirs to their catchments 💧🧪💻 meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU25/sessio...

Using @gleonetwork.bsky.social water clarity data to test Taylors law of fluctuating scaling, i.e. the variance of a population's size or density is proportional to a positive power of the mean size or density. Super paper led by Max Glines and Kevin Rose in Ecology Letters 💦🌍🌎🌞🌏

Wanna meet up in Europe’s most beautiful city to chat about lake-catchment dynamics? We’re excited to host this session to promote needed collaborations and talks between limnologists and hydrologists to advance water management.

Did NOT see this coming!! Analysis of 2.9M rivers globally finds that, on avg 1984-2018, streamflow increased in headwaters & declined in downstream sections (1.7 times more upstream increases found than declines; ~4 times more downstream declines than increases). www.science.org/doi/abs/10.1...

We are looking for a postdoc to join our group at @gfz.bsky.social in Potsdam, Germany to work on drones, GHG, and peatland restoration. Apply until Jan 5th! And come talk to me @agu24.bsky.social if you’re interested! @fluxnetecn.bsky.social

Long-term data is critical for understanding how ecosystems work and how they might look in the future. But it's getting harder and harder to do due to funding limitations. We need to prioritise this sort of research and to stop cutting funding for it.

Ready for @eurogeosciences.bsky.social 2025 in Vienna? Don’t miss the chance to submit your abstract to our session HS10.9: “Green and Blue components of the catchment: modeling water and carbon dynamics in terrestrial and riverine environments” 🗓️ Abstract submission deadline: 15 January 2025!

If you missed two amazing talks @fluvialbenthos.bsky.social @joannablaszczak.bsky.social, recording for the talks is now available: www.cee.psu.edu/events/women...

@freshwaterscience.bsky.social has an awesome new travel grant for African and Asian freshwater scientists! 👏👏👏https://www.sfsannualmeeting.org/resh-rosenberg
