Great piece on the crisis facing British HE, the mismanagement, greed, and managerial incompetence that is leading us to the end stage of the UK’s prized knowledge economy >>> www.timeshighereducation.com/opinion/staf... #SaveUEA (Unpaywalled here: archive.ph/202502210341... )

We know exactly what’s happening. Umberto Eco warned us 30 years ago. micheleriva.medium.com/umberto-eco-...

Between 2016 and 2023 this sector faced a malicious government, bent on using universities and academics as an enemy. Now, we face one that is indifferent, which trots out the same holding pattern of public statements while everything burns. The entire time, students have suffered the consequences.

A fantastic result with clear mandate!

Nothing but professionalism when I peer review "You can use the word seminal if you like, but it makes me wanna spew!"

Off she goes 💪🏼 #SaveUEA @uea-ucu.bsky.social

A day away from the desk with the wonderful @feministteacher.bsky.social and a trip to the @vaginamuseum.bsky.social 🦪🌮🫘

What a gift to children and young people the Young V&A is!

Lovely to see these photos of a project that gave me a lot of joy to be a part of in 2024! I'd been working as part of the UEA team on a KIX funded project exploring global responses to boys' disengagement from education. Here we are with colleagues from Cambodia, France, Malawi, and the USA.

All emails I have sent since coming back from the winter break should really have come with a 'apologies for the brevity - I have too many emails to deal with and most of them aren't really that important' notice to the recipient.

Watching Brogan win #PAOTY and seeing his winners story is such a tonic. Such a great artist with brilliant energy.

At the @uniofeastanglia.bsky.social launch of the East Anglian #BoysImpact hub, learning about how and why boys (especially working class boys) engage with education in uneven ways.

There was a Vote of No Confidence in the Executive Team OVERWHELMINGLY carried at the UEA Staff Assembly this afternoon. #SaveUEA #UKHE

“He’s got one tool. It’s a hammer, we’re the nails and we’re just getting hit.”

This week's internal news bulletin for staff at @uniofeastanglia.bsky.social is doing a lot of celebrating staff success, the successes of those same staff that are being placed at risk of redundancy. Make it make sense. #SaveUEA

JOB ALERT: join us! The Foundation is seeking two new editors for The Sociological Review magazine who will build on the excellent work of @asiyaislam.bsky.social & @idleethnographer.bsky.social Interested? Don’t delay! Deadline to apply is 19 December. thesociologicalreview.org/announcement...

All and any support greatly appreciated - don't let the incompetency of our VC and Exec team punish the hard-working staff on the ground. ASK QUESTIONS OF OUR MANAGEMENT!! #SaveUEA

After an inspiring talk on post-qualitative and creative methods from EJ Renold this morning, all our Feminist Research Methods students wanted to do today in class was create, so that’s what we did!

When I say I am not a morning person you best believe that I was *very upset with myself* for rocking up to my 08:30 meeting this morning only to discover it's an 08:30 start for colleagues in Washington D.C.

Buzzing at the opening of the SCVA’s What is Truth?/Liquid Gender exhibition tonight!

None of us are free until all of us are free.

The question is, when did an academic last take a lunch break? The 90s? Earlier?

Was fun to think about fandom and femininity for this piece by Brit Dawson, and always happy to be in the company of @briony.bsky.social! planetwoo.itv.com/posts/girl-f...

Watched Saltburn last week and haven't been able to get past the profoundly North Norfolk vibe of the Saltburn Estate and occupants.

Zine Co-op have made a brilliant resource of print your own Palestine zines, collecting and sharing zines to download, print, add to zine libraries, give to friends, leave in your staffroom/school/cafe 🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸 airtable.com/appMRZonq9xJ...

Filling up my new diary with appointments and events for the coming year. So hard to feel anything other than trepidation given the binfire that has been the past few years.

I guess I watch snooker now?

I will never recover from this student email.

Hey criminologists, we need one of you in Norfolk. Full time, permanent, closes Jan 4. #AcademicSky #Sociology #Criminology (I have no idea if there’s a Crim feed yet)

Reminding folks of the existence of this incredible resource >>>

I have spent a lot of time over the past few days with different vet affiliated people, veterinary surgeons, nurses, receptionists and they’re all such good people. Good people!

Is there any better way to teach semiotics than with our old friend the aubergine emoji 🍆🍆🍆
