Hope you're enjoying less wind and the prospect of even-milder air tomorrow. At cwg.live we increased Sunday sunshine levels and give an allergen update--having any early-season symptoms?

Today’s daily digit — 6/10: More comfortable than recent days. Still on the chilly side. -Ian, CWG

The snow that missed D.C.... can be seen from space on the Eastern Shore, and in southeast VA and northeast NC. The National Weather Service in Wakefield, Va., posted this satellite image this morning. More on this, and the weekend forecast at cwg.live

Winds have roared relentlessly since midday Thursday... frequently hitting 30 to 45 mph. Below are the peak gusts since midnight. It will remain gusty until later today. Mercifully, gentle winds are forecast this weekend. More at cwg.live

Snow potential index — 0/10 (↓): The storm that walloped Virginia Beach and barely skirted the D.C. area is gone. Only time will tell if any more snow chances lie ahead this winter.

Midwinter chill continues. No trouble reaching the single digits for wind chill tonight across the area. Already feels like the teens most spots after highs stayed at or below freezing for a second straight day. Map shows 6 a.m. wind chill forecast. More at cwg.live.

Remarkable snowfall totals in Virginia Tidewater of 11 to 13"...biggest snow since 2010 there! Other totals: Richmond: 2-5", Salisbury: 4", Ocean City, Md 4-5" More info and photos at cwg.live

NEW: Winter weather advisory CANCELLED for D.C. area. Some snow showers and flurries are possible this morning, but little or no accumulation expected. Updated forecast at cwg.live

Snow potential index — 3/10 (→): Snow showers Thursday are unlikely to do more than coat the ground and a storm later next week looks like rain rather than snow.

REMINDER: Winter weather advisory for Thursday morning for ENTIRE DC area because of snow showers. It won't be a lot but EVERY FLAKE that falls will stick so icy roads possible. Timing: 8a to midday for most, could affect later part of rush hour. Details @ cwg.live

Thursday's daily digit — 3/10: Snow showers swirl by and frigid winds will make you cry. David, CWG

@capitalweather.bsky.social ... and this is the sunpillar as seen from NASA Goddard visitors center

@capitalweather.bsky.social sun pillar over Old Town Alexandria

Nice sun pillar!

Just a few snowflakes into early evening with anything accumulating sliding into southern MD and south. Totals on the light end of forecasts in region overall. Still looking like dusting to a half-inch kind of potential starting around Thursday am commute. More at cwg.live.

DC area under a Winter Weather Advisory (blue shading on map) from NWS for Thursday morning 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. That's when snow showers could drop a quick dusting to one inch, potentially making roads slick during the morning commute. More at cwg.live

Here's where we've gotten reports of snow so far: Fredericksburg, Culpeper, Luray, Little Washington, Stafford County, King George, Colonial Beach, Lake Anna, Strasburg, Locust Grove and Bealeton. Many spots have a dusting already and could end up w/ 1-2". More @ cwg.live

The ice is back at the Reflecting Pool! #wednesdaymorning @capitalweather.bsky.social

Feeling like midwinter today. If DC stays at or below freezing throughout it will be a first this late in the season since 2015. Details @ cwg.live

Radar shows patchy areas of snow well south of the DC area toward Culpeper, Fredericksburg and St. Mary’s County. Anyone down there seeing snow? Some very light snow or flurries could sneak closer to the Beltway area into the afternoon but don’t expect much. Thanks for any reports.

Snow potential index: 3/10 (↓) Batten down the hatches. At some point between Wednesday afternoon and midday Thursday, we could see enough snow to amount to a dusting to around 1 inch.

Winter weather advisories up for southern Maryland and adjacent parts of Virginia on Wednesday afternoon through evening. With cold temperatures, won't take much to cause difficult travel. Snowfall may coincide with commute. Details: cwg.live.

Ribbit! CWG reader Walter Crain sculpted this frog with leftover snow over the weekend in Falls Church, Virginia.

Here's our snow map for Wed-Thurs. We'd actually lean toward the lower end (DUSTING) in the Beltway area but we're on the edge and a slight wobble to the north could give us more -- so this map allows for that. Follow our updates at cwg.live

Good morning. It’s Tuesday! @capitalweather.bsky.social

Gorgeous colors at sunrise in Washington DC today 🌅 @capitalweather.bsky.social

Programming note: There’s still the possibility of some snow Wednesday and Thursday. We’re analyzing the latest and will have a new briefing by early afternoon.

Snow potential index: 4/10 (↓): Accumulation is iffy Wednesday into Thursday, and probably light if we see any, as we’re on the northern fringe of a storm that's been slipping south.

Tuesday Digit: 3/10 - Most have had their fill of the winter chill, but even with somewhat lighter winds, it is with us still. -David, CWG

The image in the tweet below is supposed to animate, showing the tanking snowfall projections from the European model for Wed-Thurs. Here's the animation:

Observation: The ups and downs of snow forecasts on social media seem to be stressing some of you out. For those in the DC area, you can always skip straight to the source for the latest local forecast, updated around-the-clock by CWG meteorologists, at cwg.live

Still windy out there but not as bad as yesterday! Gusting to 30 to 40 mph this morning. Wind advisory until noon. Here were some of Sunday's peak gusts. More info at cwg.live

Programming note: The potential Wed-Thurs snow event continues to trend south of the DC area and snow prospects keep shrinking. We'll assess the latest and update again this afternoon.

Snow potential index: 6/10 (→) We still gently lean toward some accumulating snow Wednesday-Thursday but the chance of a big storm has tanked.

Here's our latest briefing on the Wed-Thurs snow potential. This published this afternoon (and we forgot to share the link here until now): www.washingtonpost.com/weather/2025...
