You want to bring back the 1950's? Fine. tableroq.substack.com/p/but-they-j...

So good to see Flow www.imdb.com/title/tt4772... nominated for best animated feature! I hope it wins. I don't think it's a shoe in, but it's certainly my favorite out of that lineup. I also loved The Wild Robot www.imdb.com/title/tt2962..., so I won't be sad if that takes it.

First in my series on Production Python. I hate that no-one documents how to correctly connect your API project to an RDS-like database, so I've done it here. #python #fastapi #postgresql

Butt-ugly, but the air is clean and my whole house is a toasty 71ºF despite the bitter cold outside.

Just learning my tools really. Walnut spatula with a Zelda BotW dragon motif. Gotta take breaks for carpal tunnel.

ADHD is reminding yourself you can’t do three things at once with two hands.

And because there's more to life than work. tableroq.substack.com/p/an-obituar...

I don't know yet what the topic of my Substack is going to be. Right now I plan to kind of Scalzi on it, juxtaposing whatever insights I have in my industry with whatever random thoughts occur to me. Sadly "Whatever." is already taken as a name.

Sometimes I wonder if my role as a human being in a technological world is devolving into verifying I'm human, going through an increasingly ridiculous gauntlet of authentication factors, and lying about reading the TOS.

www.zillow.com/homedetails/...? -- The only appropriate renovation to that house is to get a bunch of your friends to dress up as vikings and sack it, raze it to the ground, and build a goddamn castle with a moat.

Guys, I get it, but It's 60°F out so there is no fire. #ACatNamedMoose stares forlornly at the fireplace wishing for warms. Tomorrow, buddy. Tomorrow.

Okay so I like #Zelda #EchoesOfWisdom. It’s a great game and very nostalgic in the way it’s constructed, but the puzzles are aimed at 8 year olds and I'm not an 8 year old. I think #Nintendo should introduce "puzzle packs" as DLC for Zelda games that reshape some or all of the puzzles in the game.

The prior owners of this house were avid DI-Why-ers.

They caught Luigi, but that implies Mario is still out there…

All the blankets belong to him.

I love this, and i want to make something similar now for my coffee beans.

I have once again gotten my dad a chicken butt for his birthday.

Dune has the same plot as the Westminster Dog Show: After generations of careful breeding, we have produced this perfect little freak of nature and now it has behavioral issues

Look, I'm not saying that FigJam isn't a good product. It's an excellent piece of software that does its job well. But it is inferior in every conceivable way to actual jam made from figs.

@tanac.bsky.social and I listen to the BBC’s “Desert Island Discs” when she’s driving. Just listened to Adrian Edmonson (The Young Ones). What an unexpectedly wonderful guy. On my list of favorite episodes from the podcast along with Mary Berry and Stanley Tucci’s appearances.

"Monstrous Regiment" is a criminally underrated entry in Terry Pratchett's #Discworld canon. A gleefully queer, affirming, and laugh out loud funny reread that was just what I needed this week.

Coffee. Cat. Fireplace. Frost. Fire.

Man, it would be a real shame if Reddit failed to come back up. A reeeal shame…

In my facebook feed’s never ending descent into AI generated madness there is nevertheless the occasional true gem of mangled English like: “Observe the careful and efficient fish transfer process”.

Bitty's new hobby is opening the closet door (with lever-style doorknob), fetching a rubber band from the shelf, and bringing it to me to snap it across the room for him to chase.

This is just a reminder that it’s not that our elected/appointed officials can’t do anything about the coming clusterfuck. It’s that they wake up every damn day and choose not to.

A major development in western North Carolina. After a 53-day water crisis brought on by Hurricane Helene, Asheville's tap water is clear to drink.

It occurs to me that never once in my life have I ever regretted detouring and spending 30 minutes in a bookstore or library, and I have never yet regretted purchasing or borrowing a book – even a bad one.

Does half the country just have lead poisoning or something?

"Once croc is about 80-90% full, take baseball bat using the head of the bat tamp down the top layer of cabbage." Poor crocodile. Also if your kimchi recipe involves a baseball bat, you might consider using a starter that's a little less, uh, vital.

Thanks to @jason0x21.bsky.social for the link: www.eater.com/24162871/foo.... Someone's going to pitch Shark Tank on a giant untapped market for masculine yogurt. "Brogurt." Whiskey-flavored, barrel aged. 2x Hopped IPYogurt. Guinness. Red Bull. BBQ. Ghost Pepper. All caffeinated or CBD-infused.

As I whistle the same 16 bars tune from Baldur's Gate 3 for the 167th time, I reflect on Maurice Ravel. Either he would have loved video game music, or playing it on repeat would be appropriate punishment for Bolero. #bg3 #classicalmusic

Yes, yes, pundits. He *should* drop out. Alito and Thomas should also be recusing themselves from cases. But a political system that relies on sociopaths to volunteer to do the right thing is a stupid one and yet here we are. The RNC chair is his DIL. Do you really think they won't nominate him?

This Is Just To Say I have eaten the glue that was in the toolbox and which you were probably saving for breakages Forgive me Google told me They were a good Replacement for plums

French may be the only language whose readability is improved by subbing emoji for words as frequently as possible. "No no no, the last 7 letters exist purely for the amusement of philologists and sadistic lexicographers. Stop pronouncing each word 2/3rds of the way through and you're there"

one thing to remember is that the central holding in plessy v. ferguson was not “segregation good” but that the constitution neither recognized social inequality as a fact in the world nor gave courts the power to remedy it. the constitution, under plessy, could neither see nor touch racism.

I'm submitting Bitty's application for Engineering Manager to my company. Skills: tenacity, thinks like an engineer, keyboard saavy, has excellent (or at least thorough) communication skills. has much experience using all of our office applications, and is motivated entirely by food and murder.

I'm eating a smoked chicken, arugula and paneer burrito. I'm also thinking about how many of my foodie-sounding gourmet choices are down to living 30 minutes from the nearest grocery store, but also having a big freezer, a smoker, and a garden with its own opinions. #foodie

So, how *do* you change things so that people who violate their oaths of office get expelled with due process?

So... let's store a person's date of birth as a timestamp, where the time component is whatever the time was on the server when the field was saved. And let's serialize is as milliseconds from epoch into a biginteger field in postgres instead of, oh I don't know, a timestamp.

I love it when hard work pays off. Native smooth sumac seedlings popping up where I cleaned out multiflora rose awhile back! #foodforest #permaculture

I’ve been saying for years that Snow Crash becomes more real every day. I’ve never intended it to have a pleasant connotation. Also I’m pretty sure the Deliverator visited my house yesterday. I didn’t see the samurai swords but everything else and the car checks out.
