Some extremely carbrained victim-blaming reporting in this article on Paul Varry’s murder by an SUV driver in Paris last year.

"If these deaths were caused by a virus, it would be called a pandemic and the world would scramble to develop a vaccine to prevent them" www.theguardian.com/global-devel...

Pleasantly surprised to turn the corner onto Jamaica Street in #liverpool and find this new bit of infrastructure. Would be better if it was all the way down, but it’s a start. Also already being used by other groups who benefit from active travel infrastructure too.

Accurate

There's a pretty mega looking cycle lane running past the new stadium. Does anyone know if @evertonfc.com have done any work to promote cycling as an effective means of shifting lots of people? What's the cycle storage like at Bromley Moore? Not mentioned at all here, obvs 🤷‍♂️

Sorry you have to join the #waroncars Ronan Keating. It's not just in the RoI. The UK, US, etc all have the same issue. If you want to kill someone and only get a slap on the wrist, do it in a car.

God dam it hork.

“Over the last 10 years in England, the number of killed and seriously injured (KSI) casualties has increased in the most deprived decile, whereas in the least deprived decile rates have decreased. This deprivation-injury relationship is particularly prevalent among young pedestrians and cyclists”

New study from China looks at how urban living reduces carbon emissions in multiple ways www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti... We explored similar ideas in our work here: www.athensjournals.gr/sciences/201... and www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

“These results suggest that some automakers need to tweak their pedestrian automatic emergency braking systems.” Bit of an understatement wouldn’t you say?

This study's title sounds like "US cities are bad because they foster inequality." But they find that the problem began in the mid-20th century, which happens to be when cities started planning for cars. So the problem isn't cities. The problem is cars. academic.oup.com/pnasnexus/ar...

I genuinely don't know where to start with this terrible cargo bike display in Decathlon. ❌ Male mannequin ❌ High-vis and helmet suggests it's a dangerous activity ❌ Waterproof trousers and coat suggest you need to wear something special ❌ No child mannequin to reinforce school run usage.

This is exactly the correct approach. Safety over convenience.

I want to ask something of you all: whenever you see the word "woke" substitute "universal human rights" in your mind. Brian is against human rights - he has said explicitly that he wants to take us back to the 1950s when women couldn't get safe abortions, a bank account, or a no-fault divorce.

The entire argument summed up in just one simple exchange.

Anyone who has been objectively immersed in this should not be surprised. With so many of the things we need to do to change our streets to keep people safe and to give them choices, it's high time we came our very firmly against the dis and mis-information out there.

But I need a huge pickup to do my job…

As cars get bigger, so do the risks. People hit by larger cars when walking or cycling are far less likely to survive. @cleancitiescampaign.org needs your help to stop #Carspreading! Find out how: https://buff.ly/4gCta2z

A new housing development in the Netherlands. By keeping car parking to the edges of the development it ensures that space directly outside homes is free for greenery, with space for residents to put seating, have community barbecues & where kids can safely play or ride bikes with their neighbours

Are you curious about #wintercycling? I spent 30+ years hating winter & shuffling from my house to my car to my work/school. 7 years ago I discovered #winterbiking and winter is now my fav season. If you want tips & tricks to get started, keep reading & if you are experienced, add yours 1/

My @thestar.com column: Council’s “Buy Local” enthusiasm rings a bit hollow considering two months ago they were voting to keep corner stores illegal. It’s a mixed message: buy local, but not TOO local. The city needs more than slogans. www.thestar.com/opinion/cont...

This would not be possible without floating bus stops.

“In planning cities of the future, we’re at a crossroads. We can no longer imprint primarily sprawling, car-dependent settlement patterns on the landscape. We need a clear, multijurisdictional approach to develop communities that are walkable, liveable, inclusive, safe, affordable and sustainable.”

“The forest was shrinking but the trees kept voting for the axe, for the axe was clever and convinced the trees that because his handle was made of wood he was one of them.” This Turkish proverb does a pretty good job at explaining the rise of the Right at the moment.
