A tiny white hideaway

How to prune an olive tree Spanish-style

The Rain Fish is out and about today in northern Spain. We are heading towards Barcelona. No sun here.

Although my novel, 'THE HOUSE ON THE EDGE OF THE CLIFF' is set in the Var above Cassis, this little Spanish house on the edge of a cliff along the Costa Brava was one of the inspirations for the story.

Our hidey hole for this night. One of my favourite little bays. Any guesses which seaside village this is?

We crossed the border into Spain today. A little research for the novel I am writing. This is the Walter Benjamin library in Portbau, with two lovely Magnolia grandiflora growing out front.

We planted this as a sapling four years ago. Now look at it, with Michel in the right-hand lower corner.

We have arrived south to the Olive Farm, greeted by almond blossom, mimosas in full blossom, butterflies, blue sky with some clouds, sun, a bit of warmth, birds singing. Home, home, home.

This is one of the BBC's headlines today, which in the light of world events brought a smile to my face. 'Sicily's gangsters complain they can't get the staff.'

This is our Parisian hideaway for the weekend. M had a full house for his screening last night. The audience loved the film. Today, over at L'Entrepot Cinema (close to metro Pernity), there will be three screenings beginning at 15.00. If you are in the neighbourhood, or in Paris, do come along.

Happy Blogging Decade, Linda @lindasbookbag.bsky.social xx

We are off to Paris for the weekend. Michel has an Iranian doc film fest commencing this evening at L'Entrepot Cinema on the Left Bank. Please come along if you are in the city. If you want more details, ask me. Maybe see you there this evening ...

It is the ninth anniversary today of my Mum's death. I miss her more than ever.

The sun is bright but SO COLD. The vineyard slopes here in the Champagne district are white with frost. Lovely to behold but looking vulnerable. SO glad Jan is over. Teeny buds are appearing and the birds are out and about again. Spring, spring, spring, come soon, please.

I once shared a dressing room with Marianne Faithful. It was a Sunday charity gig in London. She drank beer all day and I barely said a word, too star struck. Marianne Faithful was unique, a heroine to me. RIP.

I have just received this! The jacket for my novel 'ONE SUMMER IN PROVENCE' to be published on 3rd July. If you would like to, please pre-order. It makes a huge difference for authors. And, please, repost, spread the word. Thank you x

The sun is shining this morning and the birds are out in numbers. Word is about that CD's restaurant is open and there are seeds aplenty. The birds are gorging enthusiastically.

It has been SO cold. Yesterday I bought 5 kilos of bird seed. Back home, I crunched about the frozen land throwing the seeds to attract birds. None came. This afternoon I spotted 2 blue tits and a yellow breasted woodpecker. I heard gulls and crows. They must be getting hungry by now!

Terrifying.

I am watching so much David Lynch material. It is hard to come to terms with the loss of him. www.facebook.com/reel/9377406...

Anyone else going to spend their weekend watching David Lynch films?

And now dear Joan Plowright. A fine actress. May she rest in peace.

“I believe life is a continuum, and that no one really dies, they just drop their physical body and we'll all meet again, like the song says. It's sad but it's not devastating if you think like that... We're all going to be fine at the end of the story.” — David Lynch

I am terribly sad to hear about David Lynch. A visionary director. RIP.

Macron has been saying for some time now that Europe needs to build its forces and resources. UK needs to join with us. It is part of Europe and should ally itself with us. I think Starmer sees this. It couldn't be a worse tile to be out there alone. @peterstefanovic.bsky.social

Two more photos from Marseille. The emotion and beauty bowls me over here.

One of my favourite places from the top and foot of the world ...

Magical evening sky at the Olive Farm

Do you know this lemon? It is called Buddha's Fingers and this is the first one we have ever grown.

HAPPY NEW YEAR, Dear Friends. Peace on Earth. Much love, Carol xx

This morning's pickings on my stroll round the land. The lemons are enormous.

I went into my office about 3 hours ago and the floor was flooded. I have boxes of ALL my Olive Route papers, 20 years worth, plus decades of interviews and articles about/with me. All soaked. It seems that there is a leak in the wall behind the radiator and it is seeping onto the the floor. Hell!

ENSA. Calling everyone who might be interested in knowing about - and perhaps supporting - those who entertained the troops during WWII. Please do read and pass this on. the-history-girls.blogspot.com/2024/12/ente...

This GORGEOUS gift arrived from HarperCollinsUK. What a thrill. Barbara Erskine's spellbinding novel went straight to Number 1 in August 2024. If you haven't read it, the paperback will be out in May. Barbara is a fine novelist. bsky.app/profile/harp...

One of the pleasures of hols is watching films. Last night, 'Perfect Days', Wim Wenders, such a pure piece of work. The day before 'Mulholland Drive' which I haven't seen since Its debut at Cannes in 2001. Two days ago, 'Oh, Canada'. How elegant Uma Thurman is as a mature actress.

Yesterday, we had a fabulous Christmas walk on the beach, we watched Wim Wenders's film 'Perfect Days' and I read a Somerset Maugham short story by the fireside. Boxing Day: another walk, another film and some reading. As we say in France: 'Bonne continuation'.
