In less appealing TV news, I did not care at all for "Zero Day," a deeply silly show (starring a deeply disengaged Robert De Niro) that spends approx. 1/3 of its runtime on people watching cable news, the most powerful government entity of all www.bostonglobe.com/2025/02/20/a...

arguably the biggest trans actress in hollywood has been detransed by our govt. where is the outcry

Please use this gift link to read about the terrified people who are already disappearing under this administration's cruelty. When not even Christian converts are safe, there's just no denying that xenophobia IS the policy, it's the entire point. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/18/w...

(also worth noting that "Zero Day" was co-created by a NYT reporter and the former head of NBC News, which makes its emphasis on how addicted government officials are to cable news not just annoying, but extremely revealing in all the worst ways!)

I could've written 4x as much about the rise of Gordon Ramsay/2000s era reality TV, and why his macho jerk reputation is incorrect, but I settled for this quick column on why he's such a good example of how "kind" does not always mean "nice": www.bostonglobe.com/2025/02/19/a...

Since I am 1 week away from unemployment, if you or someone you know needs a music video this year... please ask me. I enjoy it and I want to do more of it. Also I need to prove to the bluesky libs that I'm not a radical leftist TV writer... I also make films

Emilia Perez award winners, say the word "trans" in your speeches challenge

Unreal. The US government is dumping Asian and African families and children in random countries that they have no connection to. Dumping, not "deporting." Deportation implies the return of a person to their home country. This is treating people like toxic waste. www.cbsnews.com/news/us-depo...

Wrote about why Britt Lower's "Severance" performance keeps making me think of the show's most obvious predecessor ("The Parent Trap," ofc) www.bostonglobe.com/2025/02/11/a...

A quick note to say that in no world did I expect an English children's film to tackle the "mixed feelings" a lil Peruvian bear might feel upon becoming a British citizen, but gdamn if Paddington 3 didn't try and also, make me cry a WHOLE LOT

trans people are WHY that monument exists in the first place! absolutely disgusting revisionist history they’re trying here

If you get paid this week & have extra cash, please consider buying a warm hat or pair of boots from our registry! These are the most requested items (esp. boots—it's been snowy in NYC!) at shelters we've been distro'ing at, but we've run out. (check "Most Wanted" tab) www.target.com/gift-registr...

Wrote about how/why the Premier League has become my most reliable source of TV drama, not least thanks to my own STUPID choices (love u mean it, Tottenham Hotspur 🙄) www.bostonglobe.com/2025/02/10/a...

Wrote about the miracle that is "Mo," a very smart comedy that so gamely carried the weight of being The Only (Palestinian-American) One on TV and so richly deserves more time than it's getting: www.bostonglobe.com/2025/02/05/a...

I'm much more of a weekly watcher than a binger these days, and I was encouraged by @carolineframke.bsky.social finding so many examples of shows operating that way now www.bostonglobe.com/2025/02/06/a...

My first novel, Woodworking, is out in ONE MONTH, in print, digital, and audio form. LEGENDARY AUTHOR OF NEVADA Imogen Binnie called it: "One of the most heartfelt, funny, and moving portraits of transition I've ever come across." Order it here: bookshop.org/p/books/wood...

Been having a lot of fun filling in as a TV columnist for The Boston Globe, not least because they just let me rail against Hellman's 'When Harry Met Sally' commercial (neither the movie nor Katz's menu highlight mayonnaise! I am not a crank!!!) www.bostonglobe.com/2025/02/03/a...

the president does not have anywhere near the authority to do what he did in that order. this rollover is pathetic.

SO COOL that Vox Media had two rounds of layoffs in the past three months and keeps cutting our budgets and yet somehow there's $20 million for one person

“I just sent you $13,000 the other day. As a parent and a consumer I’m outraged,” she wrote to Mills.”

my colleagues and I are tired of hearing in all-hands meetings that our business is doing well, and then in contract negotiations hearing that they can't afford to pay us salaries that keep pace with inflation. we've pledged to walk out if we need to. join us. nymagunion.org/reader-pledge

cruel beyond measure, punishing teachers for treating kids with the kind of understanding and compassion they might not be getting elsewhere

A late Traitors pod that is surely worth the wait thanks to the presence of @carolineframke.bsky.social and @mariebardi.bsky.social and Tom Sandoval’s deep understanding of Harry Potter lore!! podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/f...

Loved chatting all things Traitors, reality shows, and inadvisable crushes with @emilyyoshida.bsky.social and @mariebardi.bsky.social, amazing how much I can talk (and talk) about even the dumbest episode I've seen in a long while: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/e...

What a day to promote my debut novel! Woodworking (which has starred reviews from Kirkus and Publishers Weekly) is about how women support each other amid oppression. It is, obviously, a comedy, and you will smile politely at least three times. Preorder it today! bookshop.org/p/books/wood...

This feels like huge and good news in general, but also for all of us who are loosely interested in questionably written celebrity memoirs www.wired.com/story/booksh...

Finally caved and got a real podcast mic and feel positively drunk with power?? There really is something about Crisp Audio that makes you feel like every thought is worth saying aloud, intoxicating stuff, I get it now

Anyway, happy birthday to my sister @livienna.bsky.social, who gave us all the gift of a new crossword that only she could construct 💘 www.puzzmo.com/puzzle/2025-...

This is small in the grand scheme of things, etc etc, but: so many people on this season of The Traitors (US) are being SO DUMB that Tom Sandoval is actually threatening to become the most fun part of the show, which is just.........................unacceptable
