Five major airlines are suing to overturn a rule from then-Transportation secretary Pete Buttigieg that actually holds airlines accountable for damaging disabled people's wheelchairs. New from me at @motherjones.com. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

Really good to see UTV and ITVX platforming a disabled activist on this subject - so much of the media has very heavily slanted and misrepresented the debate.

They should do a White Lotus but in Centre Parcs Longford

Launching! 🚀 Today I'm launching a new service for landowners in Ireland who want to rewild their land. I hope this will be the start of a network that will promote rewilding in this country - the time is right! New social 🙋‍♂️ @rewildyourland.bsky.social take a look 👇 www.rewildyourland.ie

Here's something that takes seconds and could have actual positive outcomes. There is an official 'citizen's petition' system in the EU. There's one open at the moment to ban conversion therapy for LGBT+ people in the EU. Ireland can be 1 of the 7 nations needed eci.ec.europa.eu/043/public/#...

And Ireland are now the 3rd country in the EU to support this petition. Good work, all of you.

Absolutely vital now, with LGBT rights under ferocious attack in the US & Britain, that the EU holds firm! Please sign this petition TODAY to ban conversion practices (aka conversion "therapy") throughout the EU. SIGN & SHARE, PLEASE!

Recently got these fab prints from @ciaraioch.bsky.social My pics do not do them justice, but they are gorgeous! Unframed (I'm busy!) The "darkness" print is carrying me at the moment-we have to trust that there's a light waiting for us out there. Support (local) art, you'll miss it when it's gone.

Just met another young person (late 20s) who’s thinking of emigrating. Not because she and her boyfriend want to, but because the cost and conditions of renting in Dublin or nearby counties and the cost of buying, are driving them close to angry despair. There HAS to be a solution. So read this.

I am begging #speirgorm if you read one thing today, make it this. If you aren’t personally affected or don’t work in this area I promise you have no idea how monumentally banjaxed the Join Family visa system in Ireland is.

He’s insane.

It can feel futile but please email or call your councillors and TDs about this stupid idea of cutting down the last few trees we have. Without a doubt they’re getting people contacting them in support of this useless, busy work idea

BBC asked leading AI tools 100 basic questions, using its articles as sources. Significant issues with just over half of the answers. Clear factual errors in a fifth Where answers included quotes from BBC articles, more than 1 in 10 were altered, or didn’t exist www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/...

This ancient, wild oak in my place is about 12m from the edge of a road. It has stood there for 100s of years, supporting a whole web of life, bothering nobody. Now they're talking about removing it and countless others, because in Ireland (1% native forest left), nature ALWAYS has to pay.

Give this a share and us a follow now we’re on our way out of twitter. Sharing Ken Loach and Sixteen Films news and content here!

Senior government figures very surprised that four Regional Independent TDs told Verona Murphy that they would only vote for the coalition on a “case by case basis.” That was not the agreed understanding apparently.

Becoming more apparent that rather than engaging in cute negotiating tactics, they just don't seem to understand how Government works

I try not to be alarmist, but as a Jewish academic with a lot of inherited familial trauma, it does not make me feel great that an avowed supporter of the German far-right now has access to my Social Security number.

Unfortunately the Constitution did not foresee a situation where the president does whatever he wants and says "What are you gonna do about it dork"

Anyhow, it would be a great time for Canada to implement Universal Basic Income. Put our reluctant tariff money toward raising the social safety net for the people it's going to hurt worst. Trudeau, you've got nothing to lose, and a potential legacy to gain!

A former top Treasury Dept. Official says the payment records are so sensitive they are always off limits for political officials to protect Americans’ privacy. The breech is enormous.

This is one map that really confuses (and angers) people Ecological integrity is a more complicated metric than biodiversity and one we should be using a lot more imo.

“The aggressor is always peace-loving… he would prefer to take over our country unopposed.” -Clausewitz One of my favorite quotes about international power politics and war, fitting all too well here.

I enjoyed showing off my fave Xmas present as teaching started up again this week. Somehow it makes people smile when you wearing a Very Hungry Caterpillar around your neck 😂 #AcademicSky #Education #SmallJoys

The magic of an Irish rainforest. 🌎

The cold is tough on 100k without power but the rain will be welcome by as one follower said they are harvesting the rainfall to fill water butts to flush toilets on day 7 of no power or water. While another follower is taking water from local stream to full toilets.

Ehh, Laaads‼️‼️‼️ Worst parliamentary gender balance in Europe - Cummins “…the Taoiseach & Tánaiste had "plenty of suitably qualified women TDs" to choose from…they could also have appointed minstrs of state from the Seanad if they delayed… until...election is complete”. #speirgorm #IrishPol #SE25

All seemed fine here when we woke up earlier. Listening to new we feel fortunate to have power. A neighbour has just posted this picture into our WhatsApp group. A row of trees has fallen on a power line on our lane. Woah! #Sandyford #Speirgorm #StormÉowyn
