Changes in NASA's workforce, by year, since 1959. Today will mark the largest involuntary reduction in staffing since the end of Apollo. The difference is that, right now, NASA is trying to spin up a Moon program instead of end one.

Despite the vagueness of the OMB order, I attempted to make a reasonable guess based on its definitions and references to 2 C.F.R. § 200.1. NASA's active grants and "Cooperative Agreements" have nearly $887M of obligations in the past few fiscal years, and impact every state in the union.

NASA has taken down its online NODIS directory, which lists NASA's internal directives, policies, and guidelines for how the agency operates. It's not that the server is down; the URL now hits a 404 Resource Not Found. According to web.archive.org/web/20250000... it went down between Jan 22 - 24.

BABIN, LUCAS INTRODUCE COMMERCIAL SPACE BILL spacepolicyonline.com/news/babin-l...

Is anyone else worried about the future of SpaceNews after this "merger"? There will be a lot of pressure to juice growth and lower costs under their new venture-backed owners. spacenews.com/multiverse-m...

Confession: I'm not convinced that an exoplanetary biosignature detection could ever be conclusively determined to be a sign of life. (Assuming the signature is not something like a structured message, that is). www.planetary.org/articles/how...

My wife and I had a baby 3 months ago so I've been blissfully out-of-touch. Now I've returned from paternity leave and found that space folks migrated here instead of Threads, so I will also be posting space policy stuff here as well. We'll see how it goes. Proof!
