The last couple of weeks in Jordan have been unseasonably cold. We’ve even had snow to the north and south so… I’ve taught myself to knit! Practicing the stitches needed to create this particular pattern while devouring audiobooks one after another has been such a nice distraction. #knitting #winter

I did this one a few weeks ago before I hit full winter hibernation. Thank goodness winter is shorter in Jordan. #art #pastel #olivetree

This pomegranate had such a perfect crown. I couldn’t resist. #food #art

#Petra Finally finished! My arthritis really disrupted the progress, but it’s done! #drawing #pastelpainting #archaeology #ancienthistory #history

The nativity scene at the Vatican this year is carved from olive wood and features the baby Jesus resting on a Palestinian keffiyeh. It was created by Palestinian artists. #FreePalestine #Christmas

Pressing our olives! #oliveoil #olives #harvest

The cool air, the satisfying pluck of each olive, the smell of bonfires, grass and red soil, the call to prayer echoing in the distance… This is happiness. #harvest #olives #nature #meditation

I’ve often found that ancient ruins and fossils go hand in hand. I have several good examples to share and I’ll start with the very first one I ever discovered. It is embedded in a large piece of cut rock in an excavation pile at Perge in Antalya Turkey #fossilfriday

I thought the treasury would be the hard part of this piece. I’ve never been more wrong. I’ve only just now nearly completed one side of the rock face for the Sikh and that’s after completely erasing an entire days worth of work and starting again. F#%k!!! #art #petra #drawing #tired #archaeology

So excited about #MosaicMonday as I’m fortunate enough to live near the city of Madaba, a Greco-Roman hub known specifically for its countless mosaics! I have much to share and I’ll start with this gem from the Byzantine church of the Virgin Mary.

We’ve driven down to Petra three times since we moved to Jordan, but this is the first time I’ve had the guts to attempt to capture it. #art #drawing #contecrayons #softpastel #petra

In wintertime, after the olive harvest, the trees get funny haircuts to prepare them for new growth in spring. My daughter and I drew winter olive trees today. #nature #drawing

Good.

Based on trends from the last two decades, I predict this potato will be crowned People Magazines sexiest man alive 2025. #sexiestmanalive

Social media is thick with complaints about how liberals just need to shut up and accept the results. One might think we were calling the election rigged or stolen or that we attacked the Capitol with weapons and a gallows while shouting about hanging the VP. Such short memories they have. #amnesia

Hey America, here are the deaths you paid for today.

Fafnir. Her zoomies are intense and so are her naps! #cats

Good news for once! We’ve found a 300-year-old coral that’s so big it’s visible from space. It’s now considered the world’s largest. Best of all: it’s not yet harmed by climate change & global warming. It’s being called a beacon of hope. Let it also be a call to action! #DoSomething 🧵

First post: It’s nearly winter in Amman and I’m feeling it in my joints. I have been Practicing with my conte crayons and pencils though not as often as I’d like. These are from a few weeks back. Persimmon and oyster fossil. #conte #drawing
