regular reminder that we can trace features of autism through folklore back to like, the prehistoric era. the fuck do you think ‘changelings’ were

Absolutely livid to have my tax dollars paying for all of this instead of libraries, environmental protection, feeding children, due process, medical research, teachers, history, human rights, higher education accessibility, health care, poetry, clean water, safe food, art, and beauty.

We write to learn, and we write to think. Those who don’t want us to write don’t want us to learn or think either.

writing in APA this week has been an interesting experience. on one hand, i've read SO MUCH on queer YAL. on the other hand, i feel like i've said SO LITTLE because of my methods & lit review sections.

Update: that same prof started to sing a song about Moses, when I didn’t hum along and looked confused he asked, “you don’t know it?” The women at my table said, “we learned it in Catholic school.” I responded, “oh, I’m agnostic.” The prof said “the Bible is a foundational piece of literature” 🫠

Screaming a little that my grad prof just said "I grade based on a feeling" and "I'm not trained to teach" when a student asked about the grading system and how they can improve their grade in the class.

Me: let's look at some of this R&R feedback Me, many hours later: hm, I've found 20 articles to read.

It's actually theft of taxpayers money when websites go dark. We paid for that data

Quite the metaphor…

MapQuest is NOT renaming the Gulf of Mexico. Our maps are like grandma's Thanksgiving recipes — once they're printed, they're not changing. The Gulf of Mexico stays put on MapQuest.

Any university that voluntarily shutters a DEI program, office or personnel “Because of Trumps Executive Order” is making a PR decision. Not a legal one. Trumps EO does not change anti discrimination law. If anything, the EO is unlawful. Universities should treat it that way.

I went to post about the National Japanese American Memorial in D.C., which is beautiful but usually missed by tourists. It is a deeply staggering admission of guilt and a warning to future Americans. I went to link to the inscriptions and- Well, they took the site down. www.nps.gov/places/japan...

Pretty simple to say that Musk purchased the Presidency and is acting accordingly. It happens to also have the benefit of being true.

All of my mentees have heard me say to them, "They are lucky to have you." Listen to me. Let me make it plain: ANYONE excelling *in any space designed specifically for them to fail* is doing amazing, sweetie.

Imagine being afraid of pronouns.

Very surreal to be in a 19th Cent. African American lit class right now—both my readings and the govt are saying black people have lower intelligence, shouldn’t work certain jobs….

He also very directly and specifically blamed disabled people. And I am absolutely begging y’all to call it out and not leave us out of your activism. He literally named us. Why aren’t we on your list of at-risk groups?

the dissonance in responses—ranging from excitement to "why on earth is she doing that?"—when i give a presentation with QR codes/short URLs to my slide deck is always so interesting? shocking? i'm still learning and imperfect, but sharing slides is just a super simple way to engage in #udl

🔍 #MTSS/#RTI is more about prevention in ALL classrooms than it is intervention. Tier One is about creating warm, inclusive, universally designed environments that deliver the best instruction and respond with intervention at the first sign of need. #EduSky #UDL #EdLeaders

@mssackstein.bsky.social I loved the #UngradingChat prompts from last semester — will you be posting those weekly again?

If anything, RFK, Jr. permanently ended impostor syndrome. After today, no one should ever feel unqualified for anything, ever.

I think the phrasing here is really important, folks.

Still strongly support Palestine here, in case that makes any of y’all rethink your follow. I do not debate on it, just so’s we’re all clear on that. 🇵🇸

To be clear: this article is a free, public resource and you can do whatever you want with it (as long as you credit me). Print out 1000 copies and give them to community centers. Sell the zine in your bookstore. Send it to all of your relatives. You have my permission to distribute in any way.

How has it only been nine days . . . .

“Terrible things are happening outside. Poor helpless people are being dragged out of their homes. Families are torn apart. Men, women, and children are separated. Children come home from school to find that their parents have disappeared.” Diary of Anne Frank January 13, 1943

This is how you do it...

Okay so if you do this during business hours there’s people involved: 1) switchboard 2) tell them your rep, district, & state 3) staffer asking for statement 4) staffer will ask for your address and email

#CFP: Encountering the forbidden in children’s literature Special issue of Barnelitterært forskningstidsskrift | Nordic Journal of Childlit Aesthetics Deadline for abstracts: 10 February 2025 Email: [email protected], [email protected] Website: www.idunn.no/page/blft/cf...

ah, well that’s a perfectly reasonable excuse for helping end American democracy, carry on then

In 3 days,Trump has banned health research funding & public health info sharing, shut down reproductive rights website, withdrawn from WHO & climate action/cooperation, threatened immigrants, attacked trans rights & DEI, freed domestic terrorists, increased medicine prices, conned people & more. We should be clear that the language in the anti “DEI” executive order and the subsequent letter sent to federal employees to turn in colleagues who try to “disguise” DEI under other names means hires and promotions of Black and other POC will be deemed suspicious. www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...

When ICE asks you something, you shut the fuck up. Doesn't matter what ICE is asking you. ICE asks your name? Your name is shut the fuck up. ICE asks where the bathroom is? Shut the fuck up and let them piss themselves. ICE asks you a good spot to eat? Shut the fuck up and let them eat shit.

This is terrifying.

Higher-ed faculty, we should ask how far our institutions will go to protect us when we refuse to comply with ICE. We need to be asking chairs, deans, union presidents what they're going to do to protect us should we refuse ICE entry to our classrooms or should we refuse to identify a student.

We could have had nice things

This is what the erasure of history looks like. This is what the world pre-Stonewall looked like. This is the world where Alan Turing was chemically castrated for “illegally” being homosexual—a world where literal heroes and geniuses die by suicide because of hatred and bigotry.

Just FYI, administrative warrants (like the ones used by ICE) are not judicial warrants (used by cops, signed by a judge). You do NOT legally have to open the door for an ICE officer with an administrative warrant *no matter what the ICE officer says.*

“If you witness someone being detained by ICE, you have the right to record as long as you do not interfere with the arrest. Pictures, videos, and any information you can gather, can help verify an immigration raid and also help someone's immigration case.”

PSA: #Oligarchy means "rule by a small group,” from the Greek "oligoi" (few) & "arkhein" (to rule). A nation ruled by 10 hobos is an oligarchy. #Plutocracy, OTOH, means "rule by the rich,” from the Greek "kratos" (authority) & "ploutos" (wealth). The more precise term for the US today: plutocracy.

it’s almost like the two party system was designed to be fruitless for one of the parties….

Say it louder: WHITE LIBERALISM HAS A BLACK PEOPLE PROBLEM
