This video does such a good job saying what I have been trying to say about commercial AI. An AI can write a 10th grade lit essay, but the point of an essay assignment is not to produce an essay. The essay teaches critical thinking, research skills, etc. The effort is the point.

There is always the possibility of fascism, as long as the contradictions between capitalist class society and its politics, and between the world market and the mediation of capital by nation-states, are not resolved

The reality of litigation challenging the Trump administration is that it isn’t all going to win. That’s OK. I explain at Law Dork:

Report: You Live In An Embarrassing Country

FUCK OFF BUDDY

This is the most wretched campaign of deliberate, explicit persecution the United States has perpetrated against a minority group in decades. Many of the most important people in politics and journalism are busying themselves trying to figure out how little to say or do about it.

and why is the former secretary of the air force stuck posting about this on linkedin instead of any media reporting about how we’re now entering the military purge phase of the coup

these people are fascists. but they’ve gotta be the minority! this week i confided in some cis white male military coworkers how depressed i am seeing trans people erased. turned out everyone had at least one trans person in our lives who we were terrified for—kids, partners, family, friends.

apparently i totally forgot to post about Just for the Summer at all. i read it sometime this month, i think after Babel? i needed something engaging and lighthearted, and Jimenez delivered. i didn’t adore it the way i’d hoped, tho. #booksky

job news: my boss managed to get me on a list of safe employees by saying i’ll consider relocating if our dept will pay for it. they absolutely will not pay for it. but it will take months of process to decide that formally and tell me my next set of options. EFFICIENCY

OF COURSE THEY’LL FUCKING BLINK IF YOU TRY AT ALL, JESUS CHRIST. thank god

next up in light plane reading that is also immensely depressing in a different way than my life is currently: Jill Duggar’s memoir, which was recommended by the library after I finished Shari Franke’s book. #booksky

instagram’s ad algo is inside my head. how dare u tell me these exist when I have too many shoes already

the person on the plane next to me is reading a book simply entitled Butts. this rules #booksky

the library had Spears’ memoir available right when I was looking for easy but interesting plane reading, so I picked it up. I performatively hated Spears as a kid bc her image was so used as a cudgel of heteronormative femininity, but as an adult I’m curious about her as a person. #booksky

Such a quick read that I didn’t even post about starting it. It was decent but reads like a style of fanfic I find self-indulgent and immature. Pick it up if you like the premise and you’re less cranky than me. #booksky

"Their daily fight for this is what keeps it from ever feeling like a history lesson. You know, writing the book is just the tax I pay to get to know them." niemanstoryboard.org/2025/02/20/a... #longreads #booksky

my best friend in our leadership group is a probie and almost certainly getting fired today. he is essential to our organization, our mission is completely fucked without him, and there’s nothing we can do about it.

broke new records for crying in public at work this week

What I fear is going to happen is that Trump will be unpopular, we’ll get some sort of weird capital controlled stasis, and what we have lost in the past month plus will never get rebuilt. Just like a new normal of austerity and hollowed state capacity. It’s imperative to deliver a real defeat.

Yet another sports study supporting trans inclusion in women's sports. These are becoming harder and harder to ignore.

big thanks to the people of GA for having more bravery and integrity than all of congress. thank you for standing up for us

How we did it: Texas Won’t Study How Its Abortion Ban Impacts Women, So We Did

The FIRST thing Kluwe says against MAGA is that they are trying to erase trans people from existence. Did you doubt me when I said our community could lead America back from the brink by serving as a symbol of all the freedoms Americans are losing every day? This is exactly what I meant.
