RFK JR on Measles Outbreaks just now: "It is not unusual. There are measles outbreaks every year." It is actually very unusual. This is the first Measles death in the US in 10 years.

BREAKING: The NIH summer internship program (SIP) has been officially cancelled, across all institutes. It’s a sad loss for the brightest science students in America, for American science, and for future cures for diseases like cancer and Alzheimer’s. 🧪 1/

Our paper @dulaclab.bsky.social on social homeostasis is online today! We characterized “social rebound” behavior after social isolation in multiple mouse strains and revealed its neural basis. Intriguingly, soft touch plays a key role in satisfying social need! www.nature.com/articles/s41...

I don't really have words for how devastating it would be to lose the entire intramural program. This has to be stopped.

An excellent activity at this rally: organize visits to local swing-district members of Congress. If you're assembling such an event in Trenton, let people on this thread know, especially Cate. key members of Congress nearby: NJ-07, PA-01, PA-07, PA-08. see votemaximizer.org for geography

A 2018 survey of more than 4,000 Wikipedians found that 12% had a doctorate. Scientists made up one-third of the Wikimedia Foundation’s 16 trustees. A feature from Nature Careers outlines how scientists contribute to Wikipedia. 🧪

This probably can’t pass by itself. But the obvious play is to sneak this into the budget, since raises revenue. Highly damaging to educational institutions. Capitol switchboard is 202-224-3121. Give your ZIP Code, leave a message with your member.

federal employee says what

House Republicans just voted to gut Medicaid, which covers 1 in 5 Americans overall, including 41% of births and 63% of nursing home care. They also just voted to gut SNAP, on which 41 million food insecure Americans rely. This won’t just harm people. This will kill people. They own this.

Measles can make your immune system forget its previous experiences - it is *bad* - you do not want to get it

It’s happening, New Jersey! It’s time to rally for science!

IMPORTANT Collecting data to understand and strengthen arguments about the impact of the administration's ill-considered actions and the responses of universities... Please share!

El Capitan displays a massive American flag upside down—the traditional signal of distress or extreme emergency.

🚨PA colleagues: "Senator Fetterman wants to hear from you about how the federal funding freeze is affecting Pennsylvania." "If your project has been impacted, please fill out our constituent impact form:" forms.office.com/g/mFv2JAPxpC Get out your Other Support and share that info!

What's the best state? JERSEY is the best state! Who wants to help @annikabarber.bsky.social and me organize the NJ Stand Up for Science rally? @standupforscience.bsky.social @booker.senate.gov @kim.senate.gov

Want to tell the public what US government workers actually do, vs. the propaganda spewed by DOGE? This incredible website, "We the Builders," is asking for first-person testimonials from government workers about their actual jobs, and how they make the government work. www.wethebuilders.org

Called my 2 Senators and Rep about this today! (Their #s are saved as contacts in my phone at this point.) 👏 Calling matters!! As a former senate intern, each call (and vm) gets logged and informs how our reps spend their limited time and effort! Call to put YOUR issues at the top of their list!

A new government tracker claims DOGE has saved billions from ending federal contracts. But an NPR analysis of the data finds the claimed savings don't add up.

Government funding expires March 14 and there's a chance they'll need Democratic votes to prevent a shutdown so that could be a good time to demand that Musk and his teens are out of government and an impartial investigation into what they've done thus far

Ahhh, that’s how they’re going to avoid the pissed-off voters. 69M fewer women voters who changed their name upon marriage, by convention. CALL to vote NO on the #SAVEact. Holy $h!t - via Jessica Yellin

🚨📃New Wassum Lab Paper📃🚨 Out today, @jackiegio.bsky.social discovered brain pathways that support agency and habit and how chronic stress disrupts them to rob of us our agency and cause us to form rigid habits 🧵👇 www.nature.com/articles/s41... Free full text: rdcu.be/eaxEv

👏🏼 Judge Reyes 👏🏼 Nailed it

Aaaaaand CZI decides not to continue its diversity initiatives (not surprised, but still disappointed)

So if Musk doesn’t run DOGE, and DOGE isn’t a real government agency, then no one has to listen to Musk or do what the DOGE bros tell them to do, right?

Now is the time to Stand Up for Science! 🔬🩺🧠 Links are below. March 7 is the date. 📣Organize, march, speak up and let your colleagues, friends, & neighbors know. @standupforscience.bsky.social 👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇

Incredibly accurate lmao

delighted to share our work revealing a new type of excitatory hippocampal neuron we call the "ovoid cell", which has really exquisite properties relative to adjacent pyramidal cells! superb work of first-author @adriennekinman.bsky.social and many others in the lab www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Cutting overhead has been touted as a response to administrative bloat at universities. Some of this bloat comes from responses to govt regulations: entire offices have been created to deal with various compliance tasks. The govt could reduce bloat by reducing onerous regulations.
