No worries, you're meant to take your time anyways! The first makeup I got was through banners, then when you get to wishing woods you can unlock a lot more through a shop! Don't feel discouraged 🫡

The makeup/cosmetics you can get from pulling on the banners! E.g. the permanent banner 'Deep Echoes' gives you makeup every 10-15 pulls, limited banners do the same.
When you access a region called 'Wishing Woods' later in the story, you can meet an NPC named 'Kalida', and they sell makeup! ✨️
